    Hey all,

My second battery pack used to work, now it doesn't I recall when I got it I had to go somewhere and activate it somehow, make the computer recognise it, but forgot where or how. It doesn't charge now, nor does it acknowledge there is on there.

A few days ago I started to get constant rings, the noise it makes when you plug in something like a USB stick, then unplug it, every 20 seconds of so I'd get it, turned out to be the floppy disk controller ( I think, is what popped up anyways) yet I had no floppy device in there. So I went to CP and when it came up again hit the disable button, didn't work so I rebooted yet again and the issue disappeared. But now I can't get my second battery to do anything. My DVDR still works fine, but not the battery as it's not detected.

Thanks.............. and it sucks when I needed info bad, guess what site was down for 24hrs..... ;)

My 2nd battery was plug in play. I don't remember having to do anything.
You could check in the BIOS, but I can't remember anything that needs to be changed in the BIOS either.
My 29 is outside in my truck and it's raining. I'm too much of a wuss today to go back in the rain today. I will check the BIOS tomorrow.

Thanks. I gave my Toughbook a soak the other day to wash it off well, and my RAM quit on me, then things started acting up (screen flickers, floppy inserting and removing noises, slow or no Internet Exploder load up, system restore not working, HDD defrag stopping at 3%, etc.) after I temporarily put my original 256Mb stick in til I could get another 1Gb stick, but everything is working fine now except detecting the second battery. It charged fine a few days ago before I got the floppy noises Monday, now it doesn't even register.

A nice puddle formed under the 'book after, but the battery is sealed up, so maybe the circuit board is fried?

My main battery is 100% charged now, and I see for the first time the MP LED below the mouse keys flashes in red 2 second bursts.... this mean my battery is toast?

Then again, I recall the second battery working fine for about 36 hours after the wash, I lost it after playing with the device manager to get it to stop saying there was a floppy drive being inserted and removed......

Yep, flashing red is bad. The battery inside the 2nd batt housing may be good. Or maybe the other way, the housing is good and batt is toast. If it's the batt itself, I am pretty sure I have a used one around here somewhere.

Well, I pulled out the battery and it's 100% sealed in plastic, surrounded by foam bumpers....... so is either the circuit board attached, or it's my settings. I do remember it not showing up at first and found a way to enable it shortly after getting it, just don't remember if it was a few clicks or battery calibration, think it was the first because I didn't believe the 7 hours of battery time remaining.

The battery needs more than just a positive and negative to work
The floppy disk controller you disabled, that may or may not be functioning may have something to do with the circutry the battery needs to comunicate with the laptop
Don't throw it away yet , it might work in another Toughbook

Ya, saw that first line used in my search, was directed at Chevy****** whatever his name is. Lol

Not planning to chuck it away, ordered a second CF-29E Saturday night, thinking I killed this one by getting the inside wet (until I not only got it working the other night and back to normal after new RAM, but also by watching the video where they give a CF-29 or 30 a solid dunk in a tank of water, it boots after, then placing 10 sticks of dynamite worth of plasic explosive under it and blowing it up, only to find the Toughbook still worked after!?!?!) This one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miqWBuT_nTI

Outstanding product beyond my expectations really, even with all the tiny glitches afterwards........ :D

Glad I bought a second now, only thing better than being super happy with one Toughbook is to be happy owning two of them!!!
