I have a CF-29CTPGZKM with 512 onboard memory. I am trying to find out if anyone has added 1G to this model with success. I know most Mk 1 units only had 256 onboard and could be upgraded to 768. With the extra onboard, I'd love to get to 1.5Gig. I saw a posting about someone else who had the same CF-29CTPxxxx model but there was no follow up on whether the 1 gig memory worked or not.

    Yes you can add 1GB
    You need a pc2100,or pc2700 ddr1 module
    They cost about $40
Make sure you don't buy the more common and cheaper ddr2 type

    Lawrence... Welcome to the forum...

I am sorry... I normally do not flame.... But does anyone read the FAQ anymore before they post? Or one of several stickies that we have painstakingly put together over the years? A LOT of people have put A LOT of time into those. We've all been where you are now, but it bears fruit to read... And learn...

Please take the time to read... You are soon to be sucked into the "Toughbook Addiction"... You will need to know everything.

Not sure why you were flamed. I read all 11 pages of the FAQ post and everything I could locate about my particular question, including the specifics listed about CF29 models and memory, before I posted. I found nothing that said "yes I added 1 Gig memory to my CF-29CTPxxxx model and now have 1.5 Gig memory. I just wanted to hear the difinitive "yes this will work and I have tried it" statement before I invest in memory.

No problem ,you are right even the Panasonic cf-29 reference manual has old outdated info as it states you can add 512mb max
There is probably a few posts around where the question has been answered to add to the 256mb models a 1gb stick but I bet nothing on the rare 512mb models

I don't know why more people do not simply use a memory upgrade source; like the Crucial Memory Advisor™ tool:

    Step 1 — Panasonic
    Step 2 — Toughbook
    Step 3 — Toughbook CF-29 Series [Mk1 thru Mk3]

    returns:

    Maximum Memory: 1280 or 1536MB
    Slots: 1 (1 bank of 1)
    Standard Memory: 256 or 512MB non-removable
    USB Support: 2.x Compliant

    while:

    Step 3 — Toughbook CF-29 DDR2 Series [Mk4 & Mk5]

    returns:

    Chipset: Intel 945GM
    Maximum Memory: 1280 or 1536MB
    Slots: 1 (1 bank of 1)
    Standard Memory: 256 or 512MB non-removable
    USB Support: 2.x Compliant
80GB Hard Drive models maximum memory is 1536MB, 60GB Hard Drive models maximum memory is 1280MB.

Of course, this doesn't reflect the knowledge of the Panasonic Toughbook Review Forum: that the 256MB-equipped Mk4 and Mk5 Toughbooks will accept a 2GB 200-pin DDR2 SODIMM [like the one shown below :)].

Don't worry about being flamed by TB; he has a heart of gold.

Most of the time it works. In the CF 72 case, 512MB stick of ram is as far it will allow.

True for the P-IV models; however, the maximum SODIMM size for the P-III is 256MB.

    Yeh!

Installed 1Gig of memory from crucial today. I now have 1.5 Gig total. Funny, I was operating for 2 years on 768 M because the toughbook website info I had said I was maxed out. Thanks to you guys and your expert input, I have now doubled my memory. Thanks a bunch everyone!!!!!

    Yes
2 1/2 years ago I made a couple of posts on the max was 512mb as per the official panasonic manuals , and Teo corrected me and stated that 1GB will work
The panasonic info was made before the availability of the 1GB ram and we got lucky that the bios supported these
Member Azrial was the only one that tried 2GB stick in the mk4 and 5's
It worked ! with a 256mb onboard unit
No one thought this was possible ,including the panasonic techs
There is no substitute for first hand experience
