    Hello All,

I"ve searched for anything relative to the symptoms I'm having loading the touchscreen drivers & didn't find anything appropriate so, that's why I've decided to post this -- Here it goes.....

I've had my CF-29 Mk3 for about 8 years & it's time I sell it considering I've had a CF-30 for 6 of those 8. So, I'm in the process of reloading it. I originally had XP Pro SP2 on it & then decided to experiment with dual boot Ubuntu/XP (with assstance form tutorials on from thi site) & never really got the touchscreen to work on the XP side -- always had problems with calibration & recalibrating. So, I decided to reload Winxp SP2 on it & I have all the original drivers that I got off of Panasonics webiste & after installing all my other drivers, there was only 1 last "unknown device" in device manager that needed drivers -- so, through deductive reasoning, I came to the conclusion that this was the touchscreen driver. so, with that said, I tried updating the driver the way that I normally would (browse to c:\util2\drivers\mouse) & it said that it couldn't find the specific driver for that device.

I found the following thread & have followed the procedure from capt.dogfish here:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/panasonic/356620-toughbook-drivers-manuals-sources.html

& when I get to step 6 "Click on "generic mouse", All i had was a PS/2 compatible mouse but an "unknown device" under another category (can't remember at the moment). when I went through Capt.'s process -- there is a "touchpad/touchscreen" device that shows up under mice & other pointing devices.

So, I try to update the driver on this one & I get all the way through to where it's asking to update the "Fujitsu Taka~~~~ COmponent Limited" under manufacturer & under model "touchpad/touchscreen" -- I click have disk & browse to c:\util2\drivers\mouse & choose "fidmou.inf" I click open, next, next & get the following message:

"Installing this device is not recommended becasue Windows cannot verify that it is compatible with your hardware. If the driver is not compatible, your hardware will not work correctly & your computer might become unstabe or stop working completely. Do you want to continue installing this driver? & click yes (yea, im a rebel...) & it askes to reboot & I do & it comes back up & th touchscreen doesn't work & I still have a yellow "!" in the device manager under mice & pointing devices -- touchpad/touchscreen. Any info would be much appreciated because I am not convinced I have a hardware failure.

I have the presumed correct drivers given the fact that I'm using the ones I originally loaded on this laptop when I 1st got it & it's known to work.

Could loading Ubuntu on screwed anything up even though I completely wiped the hard drive before reloading on this freash load of WinXP SP2?

    I''m perplexed.....

Sounds like you need to install the hot key driver to me. Try it this way (browse to c:\util2\drivers) then search and see if it finds it

OK, that definitely worked for the hotkeys but still no touchscreen & no more yellow "!!"'s. It's like windows isn't even detecting it. I know it works because it was somewhat working (calibration was off & calibration tool was corrupted & didn't work) before I reloaded windows on it.

    Any suggestions?.

I'm assuming you have the touchscreen visible and enabled in bios. Go to the device manager. Under "Mice and Other Pointing Devices" you should see the touchscreen. Go through the installation procedure detailed on the Drivers and Manuals sticky and install "mouse_29_3_d030178.exe" which I found on the Panasonic.ca site. If that doesn't work you have a dead touchscreen and you need to call Jeff "Sadlmkr ".

    Thank you for your reply!!

When I got this laptop, it already had a BIOS password enabled on it so I can't get into it. I"ve never had a reason to until now I guess. Don't know how to reset it.

As for the driver, I downloaded it & ran the .exe unzipping the drivers to the c:\util2\drivers\mouse folder -- I still don't see anything showing up in the device manager as "found hardware". At this point, I'm starting to think that there's a problem w/ the touchscreen. If there was a way for me to get into the BIOS, I'd be able to see if the hardware is being seen by the PC & just not windows.

Another thought, would it be ok to load SP3 & all the windows updates on this 1st?

I agree with Shawn, it should be still enabled . Something you said...
This was the first sign that my touchscreen was going on my 29 and then one day it was gone...dead.

Well, I burned the Ubuntu 10.10 live cd & ran it & the touchscreen doesn't work & neither does any other pointing device including touchpad & ext. mouse.

I like that idea. Best bang for your buck. I have a couple of different units that Jeff did his touchscreen magic to before I got them. They are the best working touchscreens I have used. Period. No bs.
