Hello everyone, I have a Panasonic CF-29 MK4 L3L GZBM Toughbook; 1.60GHz; 2048 MB system memory; 320 GB Prymary master, bought in the US a few years ago, Windows XP sp3 Os.
Since there are no more 'updates of XP I have bought a new disk IDE / PATA 320 GB and install INDOWS 7. Unfortunately I had no more sound, so I replaced the new Primary with the old one. Again I no longer had the sound, I reinstalled the original drivers (from device manager everything is 'ok), I removed the original speaker by connecting it to an' other pc and it works but I do not hear from the headphone; another thing, the optical CD / DVD reader, read only disks in Word, ppt pdf etc, if I introduce a music disc , the reader doesen't read. Any suggestion is welcome Thanks Cesar

A power pull re-set is indicated.
    To eliminate scrambled mother-board:
    Pull all power.
Hold switch on for a few 15-30 second cycles.
Plug in power supply. (no battery yet)
Set bios to defaults and save [F2][F9][F10]
    Re-start and install battery.

Not clear about headphones. Do they work when plugged in?

Could this be one where the headset jack switch is jammed?
It is inside the jack. Strong light, thin probe ....pull all power first.

There seems to be a relationship between Vista and W7. While looking around I found this in CF-29 drivers jp.....(note: install, un-install, install)
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    (10) Install Sound driver
    * You must do all of the following procedure. If not, sound doesn’t come from the headphone.
    Install sound driver
    1) Click [Start] – [Computer], and browse [C:\util\drivers\sound] folder.
    2) Double-click setup(.exe) (displayed [Application] as [Type])
    3) At the [User Account Control] screen, click [Continue].
    4) When [Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard ...] appears, click [Next>].
    5) At the [Choose Destination Location] screen, click [Next>].
    6) Installation of the driver starts.
    7) When the message [InstallShield Wizard Complete] appears, click [Finish].
    Uninstall sound driver
    8) Click [Start] – [Control Panel] – [Programs] – [Uninstall a Program].
    9) Double-click [C-Major Audio].
    10) At the [User Account Control] screen, click [Continue].
    11) At the Confirmation message, click [OK].
    12) Uninstallation of the driver starts.
    13) When the message [Maintenance Complete] appears, click [Finish].
    Re-install sound driver
    14) Click [Start] – [Computer], and browse [C:\util\drivers\sound] folder.
    15) Double-click setup(.exe) (displayed [Application] as [Type])
    16) At the [User Account Control] screen, click [Continue].
    17) When [Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard ...] appears, click [Next>].
    18) At the [Choose Destination Location] screen, click [Next>].
    19) Installation of the driver starts.

What I would do is start all over and install XP Pro and forget about W7 . It does not run good on a CF-29 at all . Been there...done that...not going there again :D
