I hesitated before posting this, because I know it must be frustrating to the guys who give so much of their time when someone comes on and asks a question that has been asked and answered a dozen times before.
So.........after an afternoon reading through (almost) every thread I could find on the CF-29 and not finding an obvious solution, I decided to risk looking like the ignoramus I probably am![]()
I recently acquired a CF-29NDLGFBM, replete with a 2nd battery and a rather scabby bottom cover. No complaints, the seller was up-front about it and the rest of the machine is in pretty good nick. I had to wait till I was back in the desert to start playing around with it - for some reason my wife thought it was unreasonable for me to spend hours mucking about with a laptop, just because she hadn't seen me for 10 weeks![]()
I swapped out the HD for a 160gig drive, added 1mb of RAM and since I have no restore disks, installed a fresh copy of XP Pro SP3. Then I installed all the Panasonic drivers and everything seems to work correctly, except........I have two other devices which I can't work out what they are. They both show as data interfaces and the details show as USB\VID_1410&PID_2400&MI_00\6&23C569D8&0&0000 and USB\VID_1410&PID_2400&MI_00\6&23C569D8&0&0000.
I though initially that it may be something to do with the CD/DVD driver because I had the 2nd battery in the media bay when I installed Windoze, but the DVD media bay unit loaded and operated fine when I plugged it in and the devices are still shown.
Is it (they) something to do with the WLAN or am I completely off track?
Any help gratefully appreciated. And please be gentle if I'm just having a senior moment![]()

Or does the USB\........ bit indicate it is a Usb device I should be looking for?

As you are in the UK and Libya, I don't think the AT&T software will help you other than getting things installed. There is a member in Ireland, IIRC, who had one of these and changed the modem to something he could use in the UK.

I have this same Model Number: it will handle the 2GB RAM upgrade.
A Crucial #CT2566AC667 M16FJ3 2Gb 200-Pin DDR2 SODIMM 256Mx64 PC2-5300 (quoting my Crucial Technology invoice) is working just fine in my Mk5 CF-29NDLGFBM.

Thanks for the quick response Glen - I'm downloading the drivers as I type. I'll report back later.
Like wise many thanks, Top Cop. I was aware from Azrial's thread that 2GB should work, but after scouring the back street markets of Benghazi, 1GB was all I could come up with. You should have heard the laughter when I was looking for a stick of PC133 for my CF-M34!!
I have ordered the 2GB Crucial, but that will have to wait until I get back to the UK.

The WWAN modem was different for EU and America for the CF-29. I think the American model should work here on GPRS, but due to the differing standards it won't do anything better.

All working now - thanks to everyone
