Hi everybody, I caught the TB bug a week ago and I've been lurking. Sorry.
I bought a CF-30 on ebay and paid instantly but the seller flat out refused to complete at the winning price - so I'll have to sue for loss of bargain. UK law applies, small claims track is pretty straightforward, no need to strangle anyone.
Meantime I've bought this CF-29, said by the seller to have "no touchscreen" but with your help I've learned (I think) that "B" means it should have a touchscreen and "N" means it's a Mark 5, serial number 6J means October '06?
I clicked the link to the Panasonic configurator but couldn't find discontinued TB's, just 31 & 19, so...
Sorry to be a bore and I promise I'll read all the stickies when my isp is back up to speed but... what spec. do the other characters signify?
Put another way, what have I just bought please?

Nice machine! -
Hi, thanks very much for that, I think I must have left a space between 29 and N, it works fine now. Rushing to get everything done before the network dumps me again - been doing it all week.
Looking forward to the TB even more now.
Thanks again! -

Where I come from and for the last six decades a man's word was his bond. Strangle him. Un-acceptable. A kick to the .........sorry I digress.
If your touchscreen unit has no operable touchscreen it can be fixed. I prefer to replace it. Even a non-touch model can be touchable in an hour. I'll sell you a screen if you need it. Things like your "deal" on the CF-30 tick me off and I commiserate and occasionally aid the victim.
Actually "T" means touch. The 29N is a fine machine. Not a hot rod but a work horse. 1524 Ram. I have two...one keeper one seller.
Now for your next Toughbook can I interest you in a CF-51.lol tongue in cheek.

Would you consider identifying the jerk so we can avoid him?

Even though he is a UK seller it still would be nice to know. Your non-touch which is a touch now most likely is shot. Meaning that the seller knew it was not working so he sold it as a non-touch.

Thank you all for the sympathy, the good advice and the helpful information.
Kardan, I wish I could name the seller but doing so might come back to bite me. Let's just say that the first page of this person's feedback now has 5 negatives and 1 neutral out of 25. Total feedback under 100.
I've had a full refund and I may just let it rest. The stupid/dishonest tend not to have assets anyway.
Hoping for the best on the 29, "marked as dispatched" yesterday. If it works and hasn't been stripped of its options I'll be happy enough.
Thanks again! -

I reported his action to ebaY and they kicked him off for User Policy violation.
Just posting Negative Feedback will not protect the next buyer. -
Hi TopCop1988, I reported the seller's non-performance to ebay almost a week ago after trying to resolve the matter via ebay's message service. I asked ebay to review those messages and the seller's replies.
The seller claimed that a "client" refused to release the item for less than £XXX. This despite no mention of a client in the listing and no business-seller status.
In my view no proxy seller would fail to inform a client of the risk of no reserve, and no proxy seller would fail to maintain possession of the goods until dispatch.
I too believed that such a flagrant breach of trust by a seller with only a 94% positive rating (even lower now!) would prompt ebay to revoke membership immediately, but no!
Haven't checked today but as of yesterday the person had another expensive laptop listed, not Panasonic.
Ebay as usual cites "member privacy" as its catch-all excuse for doing damn-all.
Sorry not to be able to name the seller but if I do decide to go to law and the court should find for the respondent my statements here could be considered libellous. -

To get a better response with your problem I would call e-bay. I had a problem and thats what I did .

Moreover, what makes you think he even has money for a lawyer ( Solicitor and/or Barrister in the UK)?
Nevertheless, rather than post this miscreant's ebaY™ identity, merely post the Item Number of something he has for sale; we'll figure out the rest for ourselves.
