    Hi guys, new here

I have a CF-29 model number CF29LTQGZBM which does not have integrated wireless

Can you tell me if it's possible to retro fit an internal card and if so where I could obtain the parts

Also any advice on actually doing the job would be appreciated

    Based in the UK

What kind of wireless card? Are you talking about wifi (WLAN) or a cellular modem(WWAN).

If you are talking about adding the antenna on the lid, switch and a sled then I would say forget it. There is so many parts that you would have to order it would cost a fortune. I had a model without WWAN and thought about doing the same thing but after alot of reading and researching i realized it was just way to much work and money involved so i just bought a wwan ready cf-29. If you want WWAN and don't have the antennas i would recommend just getting a PCMCIA card. There are a few out there that can fit in the slot with the side door closed.

There is one member that is swapping over all the wwan parts from one cf-29 to another to add wwan but even he says there are over 100 parts that you would need and without seeing how it was originally on there you would have no idea on how to do it.

If you are talking about a WLAN card then yes that is super easy to put one in.

Any mini-pci wlan card will work. I like using the stock card. (meaning that I don't replace them) but if I get one that is just "wireless ready" then I install an Engenius 600mW wifi card. They run around $55. I get mine at defactowireless.com or netgate.com.

I also have a Engenius Card and they work great.

All you need to find is a Mini-pci WLAN card. I would suggest the Engenius card but an intel card will do. They make a intel 2200BG card that performs pretty well and if fairly cheap to get on ebay.

Acording to your model number you already have a intel A/B/G card installed unless someone took it out.

Did you try installing the drivers for it ? You may have one already installed and just dont have the drivers loaded so you cannot see it in windows.

Go HERE and try to download the WLAN drivers for your model and install them. Unless someone has taken the card out then all you will need is the drivers to get up and going.

Many thanks for all your replies

I purchased the Toughbook from eBay as spares or repair, write error when loading software, came with no HDD or caddy

All I did was install a new HDD and caddy and loaded XP, works fine

No wireless option in the bios so I assume no card installed

    Zippy-Man
As above, no wireless in the bios and nothing in device manager

Thanks for the reply, as I stated am UK based so will try to find a compatible card in this country

I can only assume the original card has been removed, to be honest probably my best option is to take a look inside

    Will keep you updated

If the BIOS doesn't show Wireless LAN, then your best option is to remove the bottom of the CF-29.. it's a good handful of screws but the card is on the top left corner (near the power/USB/Ethernet ports) ... and is readily accessible once the 5000 screws for the bottom is off.
