    I have a silly question:

is there a list, or has anyone here assembled a complete listing of the external screws of a CF29? I could have sworn I read one here, but am unable to find it. I have also advanced searched about 15 times, as well as google searched nbr, with no luck. I found "part numbers" for all of them in the service manual, but not size callouts :duh: (I know: let's not just use the dimensions to callout the screw part number like any other technical document, NO. Let's make up our own part numbers!?!?!? Yayyyyy!)

My screws are oxidized and funky. I want to replace all the lid and bottom cover screws with CRES fasteners, either Phillips, torx, or allen head. Possibly all the little door screws and keyboard bezel as well (the shiny rivet look might be cool)

Look at Toughbooks posts. As I recall he was using screws with a different head....torx ?????I don't recall. I have had one of his refurbished machines in my shop for a keyboard change and re-call a different head type.

I can tell you that to buy them little screws new from Heartland will cost you 59 to 87 cents a piece.

You'll probably need a thread gauge, metric of course, the threaded plate versions are best, and work it out. Screw Checkers, cheaper than one overpriced shipment from Heartlands.
When you get your list go here: Bolt Depot - Nuts and Bolts, Screws and Fasteners online
I have the good fortune to drive by their store occasionally and can pick up as few as 4 or 5 screws without paying any premium. They do sell in very small or very large quantities, have almost everything in stock, are great people, and have reasonable pricing. Go wild, use all stainless.

I went where CAP posted... However... You can always go to your local hobby shop and find what you need. The RC cars and trucks use a lot of the same sizes.

I ordered silver stainless steel torx screws for when I reman a Toughbook. I use them on the lid and antenna covers. It looks cool and they will never rust or get funky. The bottom ones I keep as black. There I use stock screws that are cleaned up or swapped from other units.

One thing you CAN do is.... On a lot of Toughbooks... You can replace the worn screws with screws that don't show in other areas. The bottom is a good example. Use the recessed screws for the corners that show and then use the worn screws back in the recesses where you can't see them. I juggle screws like that all the time unless they are so bad they need replacement.
