Ok i have been looking and looking and maybe i am missing something or what.....?
Is there a CF-29 service manual or does the CF-28 manual work for the CF-29?

I can't believe it.... -
Having offered my mia culpa; what do you guys thinks about a sticky offering at least basic instruction in using the forum search engine? I've seen some very good suggestions about using the search feature from some of the "oldtimers" that helped me. -
I also posted a link in another thread;
http://modly.net/CF-29 -
The search feature for this sight is a pretty good one. One thing I have noticed that is different from alot of other forums I've been on is that we tend to have a bunch of info in a really long thread. Sometimes it is easy to miss somthing, especially when the search for A takes you to a thread about B. I think most of that is because of the realitive low number of posts. I have been searching for a toughbook forum off and on for a couple of years and had found this sight many times but it was not "developed" like it is now. It seems it has really taken off in the last year..
thanks for hosting that manual modly! -
No problem. When I get more, I'll post them up!

Do we really need a sticky about how to use the search function?
I know that when I start into new forums that I'm usually full of P&V and want to get cracking on the lastest (Insert mod/interest here)... The overwhelming desire on most surfers part is to ask questions to get the quick answer rather than slugging through the endless posts that come up as a result of a search. I must say that I think this forum tops most since we don't always scream at someone, "USE THE SEARCH BUTTON!!!" Instead we usually just post the answer. The result is a bunch of threads that are at times loosly similar and at other times very similar and I think that can confuse people even more! Sometimes the answer may be in that thread... Sometimes not. Sometimes the thread changes direction (as now) and sometimes not.
The great benefit of using the search feature, especially on this forum, is because of all the info you will see and things you will learn along the way. THEN if you can't find something... Ask!
Again... Modly went to A LOT of trouble to configure the F A Q for our little slice of heaven here. Others contributed to it even more. I think it is a great start and answers most questions that most people will have.
<stepping down from soapbox>
Just my thoughts... -
I would say 'No' to a search sticky. If someone needs more help than this FAQ or a few trial searches give you, then a forum thread is not going to help. Plus, if the information is needed, it should go in that main site FAQ, not a forum. The overall modurators can add to that if necessary.
Admittedly some of the threads here have wandered quite a bit, and posts like Modly's sticky are more useful to coordinate things in one area. That is much more useful than a general 'Search FAQ' thread.
My 2 cents... -
(no, not the movie)
I think the thread issue is just a matter of how things started - a Panasonic forum with a thread about modding Toughbook CF-28's has become a primarily CF-28 forum. The original thread(s) about the daughter/RIM board and CN-18 break out ,etc. really deserves it's own forum. It just gradually took on a life of it's own, before anyone realized it was drawing several different topics together. If you look at it, it is more like the format if the yahoo.toughbooks group than other forums here - kind of a free form thought experiment, which is probably why so much got accomplished in such a short time.
<sigh - those were exciting days> -
MNgunner... THAT is when to post! There is a TON of info around here and I think that most of it is in the Toughook-FAQ.... But not all.
I did the same thing.... I read around here for about a week before I joined. Back then.... Nobody was posting though. Finally Modley, Mnem, Gravitar and a few others showed up.... Then things started to get interesting. There were a lot of other that started with us and then, for some reason, bowed out. There were a few that wanted only info and didn't like the rambling threads that we get involved in sometimes. I guess it takes a certain personality to "get" this forum and to thrive in it. Maybe not. -
They were weren't they? What should we do next? Any ideas? (ooops... I should start a new thread for that!) -

*I haven't lost my mind - It's backed up on disc here somewhere...* -

All of the links to the CF-29 service manuals that I found in this forum are now dead links. So, to update a little, as of the date of this post, the CF-29 service manual can be found at this link:
http://www.toughwiki.com/index.php?t...ice-Manual.pdf
Thanks -
And for those of you that don't want to use those websites, you can always use mine
: http://www.robsnetworks.com/toughbook/ and more specifically: http://www.robsnetworks.com/toughbook/SERVICE MANUALS/
BTW, hello old thread -
Oh come on!! On toughwiki.com, even the link for CF-29 is dead. Is this an internet conspiracy against the CF-29???!!!!
-
Unfortunately, the service manuals are no longer readily available
One of our regular contributors had them available free for a while, but was asked recently by a large corporation, to remove them.
I have legally purchased some service manuals from a Russian website
Or maybe they are not legal?
I dont know for sure
Anyways if you have any service related questions, we are here to help
Just ask
But dont ask about those darn manuals

$%#&@$^#@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

toughbookinfo.net
Available free to anyone interested who has time to manage a site, maybe FTP. Offshore, server seems to be down at the moment.

This is something I might want to take up!! I would want to operate it from my server however... -
Also if I were to aquire this site maybe I could open a PHP/Mysql database up and run a forums subsite assuming I can get the support of the top people here (You all know who you are!!)
-
Their are a few other available:
TOUGHBOOKHELP.COM
TOUGHBOOKSRUS.COM -
Rob,
Yes, I own this site. Currently parked in Panama with less than outstanding server uptime. Plenty of offshore hosts out there who will protect you from bad guys as long as you don't break any of their laws which you probably won't. You can operate it from your server, its called co-location I believe. You would have to pay a little for offshore hosting.
