This is just something I ran into when replacing the OS on a mk-2 I am setting up for my son. Maybe someone can use this info. After installing XP, updating to SP3 and doing all the drivers. The TS did not show up in device manager, just the ps2 mouse. I replaced the existing driver with this one I found on the web: http://pc-dl.panasonic.co.jp/cgi-bin/itn/toughbook/dl02.cgi?main=2940
All is well now. It seems there is a version A and B. B worked for me with the TS. Don't laugh guys, this stuff is brutal for us rookies. We need our hands held the whole way.![]()

i have a cf29mk1 that i just replaced the hd to a samung160gb installed the os windows xp pro no problem updated all the drivers but cant get touch screen to work it is enabled in the bios but cant get it going....wonder if i try this driver instead?

Yes.... XP will not load a touchscreen driver for you... And yes, you DO need to find the correct driver or you may have problems.
THIS is the ONLY place to get your drivers from.... At least for those of use in the USA. There are other in Canada, Japan and Australia.... But gambling on a driver from a torrent or "Driver Download Site" is like handing the keys to your Porsche over to your 12 year old! SOMETHING is going to happen and most likely it is NOT going to be what you are looking for!
For those who don't know... Download the proper driver, extract it and then go into Device Manager to "update" the keyboard/mouse driver. It will install. You will notice new icons in your system tray. One is a "right click" button... (Play with it) and the other allows changing mouse/touchscreen properties. Calibration is needed after installing the driver. It's an easy find!
Good luck and welcome to the forum! -
A friend just picked up a CF-29N 1.6, and the TS calibration is not quite right. I've done the cleaning thing, etc., but I can't seem to find the Panny TS Calibration program on their site. My CF-29 had it when I bought it, but it's now long gone...Sorry if I missed an obvious place, but my searches came up empty.
TIA, as always.... -
The calibration program is inside the mouse/touchscreen folder that gets unextracted to C:ulility or utility2
Its called cal or something like that ,and you can run the program from there
I don't have the cf-29 handy to check the exact name

calwin.exe I believe... You can also do a search on the drive for that file to find its exact location..

I found it - (and it worked
) Thanks,again, Doobi and Tomcat57...

Hey all, I have a CF-29LTQGZBM, and my issue is, awhile back I had all the drivers installed , and working, except for one labelled Unknown in the device manager.
I proceeded to download, the Uniblue driver program in hopes it would identify the missing driver...well long story short it did, and I downloaded and installed the "outdated drivers" it had found (although I have no idea what it was as the irritating yellow exclamation mark is now gone, and who knows what was added to the device manager list).
However, since then my touchscreen is now not working, I assume it has something to do with the Logitech program Uniblue had me install.
I wish to just install the touchscreen driver again, and keep the Logitech program installed as well (I should mention that program is for my wireless keyboard and mouse I am using with my laptop), the problem I am having atm is I'm not sure which driver file to use out of the Util 2 folder. I seem to already have all 3 fidmou files in system and system32 forlders, yet Calwin says the driver is not installed.
Am I missing something? -
You need first to go to Device Manager and see what drivers are installed for your mouse and other pointing devices. Just because you have the drivers in a file on your hard drive doesn't mean Windows is using them. We highly caution against letting any aftermarket program mess with your drivers. Check the Drivers section in the Main "Read Before Posting" thread.

I seem to be having a similar problem with the TS. I have downloaded both A and B mouse drivers you refer to but dont seem to be able to upload the drivers (properly?).
Within device manager i have HID and PS/2 mouse listed. right Clicking on the HID and uploading the driver from the downloaded (extracted) files does not seem to do the trick.
Should I be doing it on the PS/2 device?
How did you do it?
(nb. one complication is that my panasonic keyboard is not working at all, the mouse pad it. (I'm trying to source a new keyboard pad.....the replacement sent to me was also faulty....but that's another story...). As a result I'm using a wireless keyboard attached thro the usb port. .......Perhaps this is part of the problem....)
Any help will be gratefully received -

You need to go into Device Manager and select the Mouse properties... Then tell it to update the driver. You may need to extract it manually to C:\Drivers\Util yourself.... But it will update it to the touchscreen if enabled in the BIOS to start with. -
Hi!
I have a cf29 and the only driver that works for me I found it at the Fujitsu.com website,
http://www.fujitsu.com/us/services/edevices/components/touchpanels/drivers.html 4 and 7 wire touchpanel use the same driver, Good luck!! -
I have a mk3 CF-29 with an intermittent working touchscreen. In hours of attempting to use it, it has worked briefly(a few seconds, not even long enough to calibrate). I've cleaned and reinserted the small flat four lead connector to the small board on the back of the lcd as well as the red wire connector to the main board under the keyboard. No luck. I have the correct driver from the Panasonic web site and am running XP Pro with SP3.
Any suggestions?
Thanks -
If you read some of the stickies... It will tell you how to fish out the gunk that can build up between the touchscreen bezel and the touchscreen itself. Also... you may want to try to fish out all the crap that collects between the touchpad and the frame around it.
Otherwise you might be facing the dreaded "Touchscreen going bad" syndrome.
Check it out... -
Thanks TB.
When this doesn't work(99% of the time) there is no cursor reaction to the screen touching. When it does work, it seems fine. I didn't take apart the lcd & touchscreen. It looked a lot more involved than the CF-28 touchscreen that I've repaired.
I'll keep hunting through the stickies.
Thanks again -
What you need is a thin strip of plastic (as Cap explains) a thickness of about a 2 liter coke bottle.... Personally I have old Touchscreen protectors that I cut into .25" X 2" pieces and use the "sticky" side down to help pick up the crap that may be stuck. BUT... You MUST be careful.... If you do this incorrectly... You my jam (If indeed this is the issue).... You can jam the crud even further down into the bezel. Most comes out though...

The drivers on the Japanese and Canadian Panasonic site are the same as the ones on the US site.
The US site you must sign up and register a Toughbook but registration is free. The other sites do not require an account. Of the other two I find the Japanese one easier to navigate and it is in English as well.
The above sites are all official Panasonic, no suspicious torrent sites.
Download the file then double-click it to unpack the file. By default it will unpack to the C:\util2\drivers\mouse folder. When updating the driver point Device Manager to this folder as others have described above and everything should work fine. -

Otherwise you might be facing the dreaded "Touchscreen going bad" syndrome.
What are the symptoms of "Touchsreen going bad" syndrome? Intermittent or absolute?
Thanks -
Both! My first thought is that is you have an intermittent issue is that you may have a grain of sane pressing both the bezel and the screen or the touchpad and the frame. Moving things around, closing the lid, the vibration of setting it down may make that one grain of sand shift and then you lose everything. I have seen this on several Toughbooks.
In my experience though if your screen is bad or going bad... Your cursor either flat out doesn't work or, when you touch the screen the cursor retreats to the side or the bottom... You have a bad touchscreen. Sometimes you can get lucky and fish out junk between the spaces... But usually it is going bad if you have the retreating cursor. -
I just got an SBC Cf 29 in and the touchscreen would not calibrate...It was in the bios and the program came up under the mouse in the Control Panel..But nothing...nada zip. Well after reading this post I did a search for calwin.exe found it opened the program...and Voila!!! I had already written the seller and told him I wnted to return it...I had the same problem on some 29L's...and sold them as "Non Working Touchscreens" wish I would have known about this...Thanks one more time,Travis
