CF-29 EWPNZBM
Just picked it up the other day, and can't get the touch screen to work correctly. Tried a few different drivers and so far the closest i've got is where i'm stuck right now. Anywhere I click on the screen the cursor shows up just below the bottom toolbar. I can move the mouse side-to-side down there..and no matter where I click on the screen with the touchscreen the cursor shows up below the tool bar. The touchpad works fine though and I can navigate the mouse around no problem. Any ideas?

Search through the threads here regarding how to check the touchscreen cable connection under the LCD lid. This would be my first suggestion to resolve your issue. If that does not, then please report back here.

Route66... Was the driver installed correctly? You may also look for crud stuck between the screen and screen bezel. If something is stuck there then it forces the pointer to that area. Do you get NO movement at all? Is the touchscreen enabled in the BIOS? (You wouldn't believe the people on ebay selling touchscreens that aren't!) Then I'd look at the ribbon cable connection for the touchscreen.
-
I played around with it a bit this morning and when I pressed hard on the screen during the calibration it would accept it, so that would lead me to believe it's crud stuck somewhere between the screen/bezel probably right? I tried the toothpick thing but it didnt really help much...
How do I remove the bezel/check the ribbon cable? I can get the keyboard bezel off and hinge covers off..do i need to remove all 16 screens on the lid to seperate the bezel away or just the screws imbeded in the silver part?
-
ok, another further update. There was a bit of crud on the bottom of the screen..i was able to carefully seperate the lcd from the bezel just a hair enough to wipe it down clean to the black stuff. However, still no luck..i can click on anything on the taskbar area but not any higher with the touchscreen. Anywhere I click on the screen with my finger/stylus it defaults to the bottom area anywhere.
I've tried all the drivers on robsnetwork with no further success...
anybody got any ideas? thanks! -

Panasonic toughbook configuration page shows this as:
***San Antonio PD ONLY***Pentium M1.3G LV (Centrino), 13.3Transmissive Touch XGA ,512MB,60GB,WLAN802.11b+g, Win XP SP2 , HDD/Battery door with security screws, Backlit keyboard
so, i dont know what the heck san antonio did to these toughbooks...musta pour'd too much sand into the screens or the heat got to them! -

Its intresting that some of you get results from the configurator..
I always get " Selection is not a current or valid model "
On my main machine, The configurator hasnt worked for over a week since updates came around.
I got one from Mark as well with this exact same problem.
It worked ONE time then nothing...
I cleaned and checked everything, tried reloading drivers , nothing....I gave up. The screens just must be bad.
But I knew that when I bought it so I'm ok anyhow.

Yea, need to go into the discontinued models then cf-29 and then put the info in and it'll come up on the configuration..atleast worked for me the past few weeks.
You bought one from Mark Quiroz as well? The CF-28's i've gotten work fine..this is the first cf-29 i've gotten..he said the touchscreens were dead on the cf-28's but i got them working with new drivers. He told me the cf-29 had a dead touch screen too..but i figured it was most likely a similiar scenario of dirty screen/driver/loose ribbon cable or something.
-
Did all that... no descriptions
Also, After I select the 29 , I get:
"Invalid Framed Enviroment For the configurator, NMissing Referring site data"
Whatever that is?
I've been using it for well over a year and never seen that before
Crappy updates.. Guess i'm not lucky
Heh, Maybe some will get lucky with getting those touchscreens working
from there.
I figure, It was well used to start with, so. -
I'd say that touchscreen for sale on ebay is messed up too far for anyone to fix! Comments?

Two deep scratches? Uhhhh.... TOAST! -
Hey! Rick, this seller used our comments and discussion here on the forum regarding the touchscreen issue. BTW, thats still expensive, If it is only $249.99 I will buy a couple. Lol

I know... That is why I posted. I really don't like sellers using us by name to sell their stuff!
The fact is... It MAY be a simple fix... But most likely is not. And they would have tried to turn it on in the BIOS since they need to look in there anyway. I don't get the warm and fuzzies from this seller. -
Even I am, when selling stuff on Ebay did not use NBR directly and let them(buyer) guess which forum I am connected.

Rick good find
The seller has several for sale in separate listings, all in various conditions using the same identical pictures for all the listings
You are taking chances buying one from them if they won't even take the time to identify individual listings by showing the true condition of each
The seller is suggesting the forum as a source of information
So the buyer can forget about any after sale support from them

Mmmhmmm...
I suppose this guy COULD be a source of parts/fixer-upper units if they go cheap enuf... they ARE selling no reserve.
I kindof tend to believe him when he sez he doesn't spend a lot of time on each unit tho - otherwise, I'd expect him to have robbed the RAM from one of the as-is models to bump up his "Good-to-Go" model to 1 GB.
I buy a LOT of stuff from another similar vendor, Dealtree... they REALLY don't do any repair, they just shoot it & post it, leaving the buyer to figure out what potential it has. I've gotten a number of great deals from them, along with a few dogs. NONE of them cost much, so I don't feel like I got hosed overall.

Ha you guys must know that this is the guy that I work for. He doesn't let me spend much time on each unit as he thinks it's not cost effective. I have bought a few from him to clean up and sell myself and the only thing that I have noticed wrong with them is some have that little burn mark in the lcd and the touchscreens don't work. I also don't like the hard drives he has me put in them because I've had more fail than work. stupid cheapo refurbs. but if you are putting in your own drive it's a good deal for the price he selling them for.

Who dat say who dat say who dat?
Hey mnem, extra points if you know where this was bantered about, much to the chagrin of those in charge. -
*Quick Google later*

To those unit that has a problem based on the tittle of this thread, This time it is not the dirt or crud. I am afraid to tell you that the problem is within the cable ribbon of the TS. The cable ribbon of a touchscreen assembly has very thin carbon conductor which is insulated by thin plastic and overtime it burned out of at least one to two line especially on the bended(folded) portion (slide part to be exact). Sometimes you can't see by your naked eyes but it is open(ZETA, not X or Y its Z) using your VOM it will tell you. I don't how to repair it but if you try it will give you more damage instead of fixing it as I said it is a very thin carbon conductor. Maybe somehow out there, there is a kit to fix it but I don't know. The best thing you can do is replacing the whole tS assembly. Good Luck.

Teo, I knew you would end our suffering eventually. Props to you. Got one right in front of me under a microscope and I can see the break. Props to you. Got some stuff on order to see if we can come up with a toughbook worthy way to fix this headache.

oh the fix will remain a secret fix will remain secret to only the good members of this forum
BTW I never knew that mark used info from this site to list his stuff, but honestly I'm not surprised at all. He's a good guy, he's just always in a rush to get rid of stuff so doesn't take the time to research too much -
Psy.....Its only the beginning of long journey of fixing the problem. Hope it will do the job.

I tried this once on a TS ribbon cable in a CF-28 and couldn't get it to work. But that doesn't mean that you can't. There are a few others ways to go about it though... So Teo is right... There is hope...
