I have searched, honest. I have had a CF-27 and Cf-28 for years now but have just bought my first CF-29 and am a bit surprised by the USB being recessed so far into the case making it impossible to use a data stick without a lead. Before I start dismantling things has anyone remedied this or even added an extra socket. It's a mark 1 btw.

No, and no... I myself have an 8GB Kingston flash drive and it fits in the socket just fine. Can you just buy a smaller flash drive? They are like only $18 shipped...

Only issue I had was the iPod/iPhone cord, the rest of my items are long enough to go in w/o fear of being lost forever. The stubby wireless dongle for my mouse is in the back and I ignore it.

To answer your question I'm using a multiple USB hub on the side one when needed.

Every day I wake up and sign in...a new item takes my money from me in a single click of a "place a bid" button. :(

I use hammerspace for the purpose of storage, without the bulk or back problems.

I like the adapter, this is a problem with the side port of the CF-29. I bid on the adapter. Thanks!

Too lazy to drive 2 minutes to check the price and availability. Are we all fighting over the same bid?

 You guys make it look like some kind of bidding war! I will not engage in something like that and I do not think that AdamWest knew he was bidding against me.

I'm using two different brand USB sticks with the folding cover. I just unsnap the cover and eventually lose it, but it will snap back on too. With the cover off it fits fine. As well as the Garmin GPS cable and the Canon cable. I think there is method in the madness as the port gasket seals around the stick.
    FWIW

Well as feedback, the RadioShack USB Port Plug Extender 26-721 will fit the side USB Port of the CF-29. It will not fit with the cover closed, of course

Well thanks everyone for your solutions and feel quite guilty for causing so much trouble in my second post here (long time silent lurker).
I have all the various extenders and hubs but I was just a bit disappointed that my sandisc cruiser sticks wont fit. I have quite a few of these so it looks like I am stuck with an extension.
I use the 29 for everyday computing but also for traveling in North Africa so every bit of kit is something else to get lost. i haven't opened up the case yet but even taking the port cover off doesn't allow cruiser access.

I just won a 160 gig hard drive so now might be the time to put everything on the laptop and invest in a rugged external drive for photos

btw I just upgraded the ram with an extra 1 gig and it gave a very noticeable improvement. Now if I can just train my better half to throw her cf18 at me I could catch it and avoid the cracked screen issues
You should see how she destroyed the phone ;)

It fits here... with no cards of course. Just have to place it in and feel where it closes with no contact.

Actually, for "Media Bay Carry" you're going to have to step down to a .380 ACP; such as the Seecamp LWS38 .380,

    the Ruger LCP,

    the Kel-Tec Micro 380 P-3AT,

    the NAA Guardian .380 ACP,

    the Kahr KP3833 .380 ACP,

or the Magnum Research ME380 .380 ACP

    ;)

    Out of sheer boredom...

.40cal rounds fit the card bay loosely but the butt of the glock magazines don't clear the entrance of the media bay. If you needed spare rounds in your rig, you can't be too picky about magazines I guess.
