    Hello.

I recently bought a CF-29. I was promised this had 3G capabilities if I plugged in a working sim with activated 3G. I did and nothing happened. I am assuming this is because I do not have the correct drivers?

How do I check this? It is running windows 7 so I think I need to downgrade to XP since the drivers are for XP (is it ok to use SP3 since the drivers are only updated until SP2?)

How do I know if it actually has this capability? The number is: CF-29HTT40BG it has working touchscreen & a antenna on the top left of the screen to pull out. Above the battery there is a piece of rubber to pull away which reveals the slot for the sim card and 2 plugs.

And help would be greatly appreciated, this is a grey spot on google :(!

    Thank you!

Welcome to the Panasonic Toughbook forum

A CF-29 with 3G capabilities. Not that I know of but others might be able to tell you different. I did find that W7 really slowed down the 29 so when I had mine I went back to XP.

    Hi Shawn,

    thank you for the information!
I am completely new with this, so could you please explain to me what An "Edge HDSPA WWAN card" is? On that link you gave there are also several download links & several tabs. Which one do I need for it to work? I'm very confused :(

When I downgrade to XP I am assuming I should update to the latest Service Pack (being SP3) and disregard the drivers I found claiming to support up to SP2?

    Thank you in advance!

Well the WWAN card is actually on what we call a sled. The best thing to do now is slide the sled out and get a visual confirmation on what card you have..Someone may have changed it from what was originally there.
remove the two visible screws and it slides right out.

You may have to dig a little further than that. See if you can take the tape off and pull the card off the sled

The copper is a kind of very thin adhesive metal "tape" should I pull it off?

I'm sorry for the late reply but I had to wait for the right screwdriver to arrive to take the shield off after I ordered it online.
Here are the pictures of what I found underneath:

Best guess as I do not know much about 3G or WWAN....
That is an Edge HSDPA module. It is NOT a 3G card.
In order to even try 3G you need a newer sled.
Definitely need a sled that has the mini PCIE slot.

    Where are you located?

Not sure here but I think you will need to upgrade to a CF-30 for 3G . I never need 3G in Canada because of what it cost for a 3G "Plan"

I'm located in Belgium so stuff like Edge is completely foreign to me.

Well, I talked to my CF29 guru.

Short story is 3G will not work properly on a CF29...
The voltage to the card is too low. I guess the 3G and newer cards use a higher voltage. Therefore even when he installed the Gobi into the CF29, it worked but gave him a low voltage error. Low voltage will cause the card to heat up and eventually fail.

Edge is just a slower data rate compared to 3G.

Member Onirakkiss may be able to offer some assistance..If I recall he is in Germany.
