So, other than using them as decorative coasters or selling them for the $4 to $8 dollars they're fetching on ebay, are there any interesting hacks that can be done to old mp bay floppy drives? I've already searched the site and found that using them as an enclosure for a second HD is out, as is using it for an optical drive. I got more than one of these with my 29L4L and I honestly can't remember the last time I used a floppy. I'll keep one just for the sake of having it, but I certainly don't need multiples.

So how about it? Can they be used for anything fun or should I use them for target practice?

I wonder if you could change one over to a zip drive type arrangement, just a thought, perhaps a bad thought, but you are able to run programs strictly off a zip drive.... Driller

I though about this the other day about a multiport memory card reader like the ones that have a cf slot amoung others. Any one have any thoughts on how to go about?

I was unaware that magnetic media drives were available in an extra floppy format.

They must be near the rigidity of a piece of warm cheese and I can see why they failed to become popular.

Mitsumi experimented with them as a means of including software with round packages like Quaker Oats and Pillsbury Crescent rolls; along with Floopy discs as a venue for direct aerial broadcast.

What about putting a CF 72, or is it a CF 71, battery inside and fabbing your own media bay battery? What circuit would be needed?

I hear that the battery itself is a psudo-replacement (It will fit but slightly different voltage, but it is negligible.) BUT... You STILL need a dead meadia bay caddy... Then replace the battery inside.

Psycho.... Please send one to Rusty instead.... I have enough.

I was brainstorming about putting the 72 battery inside the floppy housing. Sorta ghetto I suppose. Would need to replicate the original media bay battery circuit. It's more than likely not cost effective, but hey with all my bad ideas I'm bound to get a good one eventually.

I'll go ahead and talk to Rusty about one then. As far as MP batteries go, I've got plent of those. It came with 5 of them. Might be worth the hack after those all wear out.
