I took my cf29 running winxp to a cafe with a wifi connection hoping to be able to surf the web as you kids say and was unable to get on. The Sierra Wireless 1xEV Network Ad card was not recognizing any wifi signals. Im new to trying this so any help would be appreciatted.

Im going to update my xp to sp3 but is there anything else i could setup before going back.
    Thx

Go to my computer, system properties, device manager and look under network adapters to see if it has a card installed.

    1. F2 to bios and then F9 (set to defaults) F10 (save)....advanced page in bios should show Wireless LAN at or near the bottom of the list.
    2. It's always good to do a power pull reset if the unit is /seems confused.
Power Pull Reset=pull battery and power cord and hold the switch on until your finger gets tired. The machine will not power up , it just clears stray electric beasties from the mobo. Then do #1.

Full model number helpful also of CF-29

Also, if you want to surf the net with a 29 at coffee shop, I would suggest a live Linux version to boot and keep you safely surfing

Ok, under network adaptors i have a Marvell Yukon Ethernet Controller and a Sierra Wireless Network adaptor. Have i made the mistake of assuming i have a wifi card in this comp.

If so is there a way (cheap) of setting that up. Thx
Ill find the full computer id and post later.

Is that from the bios? Bottom label may not match....bios is the correct one.

It will take a 2 GB stick.

    No touchscreen. (Unless modified)

My L models are running Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG. Searching or asking about an option here may be a good thing. As in a full size wireless AGN. (Half height cards could be a problem)

A Intel 2915 will work fine. 3945 maybe. One way to find out on the 5100...don't hold your breath. :)

But with the improvements in routers like AGN and etc. something different might be interesting...depending on cost.

Do a search for Atheros cards. There are links in this forum. Maybe in the dwagon's CF-29 FAQ.

No way on the 5100. Different connector

    2915 for sure.

Intel Pro/Wireless wiki gives the types.
    2915 is MINI-PCI
    3945 is MINI-PCIe

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_PRO/Wireless

Thanks Shawn you beat me to it.

Here's the one I was thinking of. EMP-8602 PLUS-S if you can find one. I think there are threads about it on NBR.
