I did a search but couldnt find another relating to my question, I also did a google search and didnt find nothing. Has anyone tried to add a 2 gb good quality chipset to a NEW model CF-29 MK4 or 5?
Thanks

This might be a good item to update in the FAQ... -
Well I think it would be a great addition to the FAQ because that is where I looked first. lol
It saves me some time and money also as I was tempted to try since I couldnt find any info on it. So if you did test with the PC4200 Mk4 and 5 models with onboard 512mb then I guess it doesnt work. But did you try other brands? I know I had problems with certain brands on my cf-28 a while back to get 512mb module.
Azrial, I agree the difference in the 1.26 and 1.5gb is nothing and not worth an upgrade, I know I WOULDNT bother. Though and extra gb would be worth it. lol but alas it sounds as if its impossible.
Though I would like to know if other brands were tried and not just one stick. -
all kinds of brands. kingston, corsair, golden ram, crucial. etc.

Generally speaking when a manufacturer posts the given limits... That's what it is... I know we mod a lot of stuff around here... But some things can't be gotten around. Most had success with the extra 256MB RAM in the CF-28.... But I've also seen them BSOD because of it... Some report no problems.
You'd be speedier by watching out for bloatware, anything that doesn't need to be installed, a faster hard drive, etc. -
This post got me wondering if it would be possible to rig up an internal USB flash drive to have a permanent "ready boost." I'll give this a go over the weekend and report back.

On a CF-28?
Not unless you're using the Cardbus USB 2.0 adapter. The internal USB is all 1.1. I tried. it sucked. Worked so-so with the CardBus adapter; it DID allocate the card, and I was able to keep my usual 20 or so browser tabs open, but it wasn't NEARLY as much of an improvement in responsiveness as it was on my desktop using the same 4GB flash card. I suspect the bottleneck is the CardBus controller...

Why is my card flashing me? -
Well, I just read something of interest on, well let's just say another forum...
Anyway... the point is that this fellow reported using a 2GB stick of DDR2 RAM from an Apple in his CF-29L and it "nullified" the 256MB on the system board and showed up as 2GB in properties and in the BIOS.
So, if this can be believed, as this is the Internet, will a 2GB Module work? -
Don't believe everything the "nulls" tell you.
mnem<~~~ nulli-fried ~~~<<< -
Well my reason for increasing Memory would be the Aerial Maping software I use. I have a TRAVELSTAR 7200 100GB HD and 1.5gb of Ram, but more ram never hurts for maping software. lol

Yes I did say that as well, but they have had hardware issues relating to memory failures, software corruption, etc. i have only seen 1-2 that even booted with 2gb in them.

and the idea goes down in flames ...

Yeah, I know, I can be kind of slow at times, but I make up for it by being thick headed...
CF-29 and a 2 GB Module anyone try yet?
