How do you hook a cANTENNA to a CF-29?

Doesn't the cable from the cantenna have to connect to the wifi card, replacing the current connected antenna, whatever that may be?

Without modifiyng the laptop and adding an external jack the only way is to use an alternate pCMCIA wifi card and a pigtail. Or you can buy a docking station with the passthrough and connect the cantena to that.

Would that same pass-thru theory hold true to the stock GPS of the 29? IOW, Can I install a Jim Gray GEOhelix antenna to the pass thru for the stock GPS, or does the stock GPS not use pass-thru? Anyone know?

Anything can be done if you are handy enough to do some rewiring or soldering. But the passthrough are currently set up at the factory and used for the WIFI or WWAN or both if you have the dual passthrough connectors.

So the external antenna jack that Toughbook puts on his Ultimate is how he connects the cANTENNA?

That would be one way to do it.

Yup. You'll need an external connector (Which is fairly easy to install). I've installed external connectors on a few computers now.. CF-28's, a Compaq NC6400, and a Mac Mini. The Mini and the NC6400 have had a cAntenna attached to them.

Thanks Modly, maybe TB will have an idea where to put one on the 29. I'm too CS to try it on my own.

    I've got a solution.

*Modly hands pappy a dremel and a fifth of Jack*

Now you've got the tools to get it done ;)

    Mod,
I've been on the outside of a lot of Jack and the same with Jim Beam. What I don't do is be on the outside of the Jack or Jim and mess with guns, power tools, or diesel equiptment.

Hell, if I get on the outside of too spirit at my age, I'd just go to sleep.

Just saying... you could be the first with an antenna connector mounted in the LCD panel itself :D

How through one of my arthritic fingers; kind of like a nipple ring?

Ouch! (And I can say that, I've got both nipples pierced, and no lie, they hurt!)

Pappy... About the only good place to put the bulkhead SMA connector would be in the spot the passthrough is on the back. If you DON'T have one there will be a piece of foam tape covering it. It looks like there is enough room on the 29 to install it and still be able to close the door. On the 28 there really isn't enough room to mount the SMA properly AND be able to close the rear door.

There isn't really anyplace else to mount it as there are folding doors running the entire length of both sides and the rear. I suppose one could mount it on the LCD somewhere but then it would stick out like a sore thumb.

I've got the brass looking thing next to the docking recepticle, is that the pass through that you are talking about?

Yup.... You could swap that out for a SMA connection but then if you ever bought a dock then it wouldn't fit. It depends on what you really want!

Pappy, I think you have to look into feedback a little bit. This guy has 1 negative in 1 year, on 150+ sales. Selling what he is, it would be amazing that not one jack a** would throw a negative at him without giving him a chance to make it right. I'd buy from him in a second. Even TB has 1 and I believe him to be a thoroughly honorable sort.

I think he lives close enough that I could "settle" problems.

I was actually going to buy one of his antennas at one point, but I ran into so many other projects that needed the cash at the time, and now I have no use for one.

Yup, that's the idea of it. You point in the direction of the wireless source (Or in the direction you want to send the signal), and it is more sensitive on the receiving end, and stronger on the sending end.
