Hello everybody, I just received my first toughbook today. It's a CF-29 from Ebay.

    The full number is CF-29ETKGZKM

It turned on long enough for me to know it isn't DOA and the touch screen works (but needs calibration I think) before the battery died. I have it charging now.

Can anybody suggest any sort of suggested run-through or checklist I should do to make sure I have everything working properly? I know I want to check the processor, ram, etc. in the My Computer properties to make sure it matches the seller's description. What else do I need to look out for to make sure this isn't a dud? I remember reading something about a battery calibration test but I'll have to search back in the forum for that again. It's a blue tab battery if that means anything to anybody.

    Thanks again,

    Drew

    Cool. Congrats.
Outside of whatever memtest or system flogging utility, just check all the specs on system properties.
Battery calibration is in the bios menu
Blue tab is the standard battery (6600mah), yellow tab is higher capacity.

Give it a go and get back to us.....Good luck!

What's the fun in being able to steer where you want to go? :)

I'm running the battery calibration on it now so I'm probably done messing with it for the night it looks like...

First thing that I find a bit frustrating is the touchpad. I changed the speed setting to full blast but it still seems like I have to drag across it multiple times to get it where I want it. Maybe I'm just too used to the pad on my Dell Inspiron which is super responsive. Is that normal?

Other than that, my only complaint so far is the screen is a little more roughed up than I hoped for, but I guess that's to be expected. When it's on you can't see any of it really so I can live with it, especially for what I'm using it for. It's already sunset so I'll have to wait to see how I feel about the screen outside.

I was making a reference to the song by the Fifth Dimension.
But the Hindenburg comes to mind when you mention rigid frame airship.

Flogging your toughbook already? Let the beatings begin! A countryboy can survive, especially when he has a toughbook. You know you're hooked already don't you? No up up and away here, it's a long slippery slide to TB addiction. Tell me guys , haven't you seen this before...Driller

Thanks for the link. I downloaded the link and now just hav to find my settings. Much better so far anyway!

I'd also like to thank the forum in general as I found the needed info for setting up my wireless to connect to WPA2 as well and I'm typing on the toughbook now.

The battery calibration ran for ovr 8 hrs and after charging overnight I turnd it on this morning and the life meter gave me about 5 hrs remaining. Right now at 77% it still says 3:16 so I am pretty happy with that so far. I'm sure it will go down some when running the mapping software and USB GPS but I think I'll be set for making it through a flight for sure. Will still pick up a media battery though.

    Anyway, thanks again!

test that battery out. Mine says 3hrs, but only lasts 2. It will show a nice even drop from %100 on the meter, and when it gets to %40 instantly drop to %5. Just a thought.

Congrats! and take pics of your "mount" when it's all buttoned up, please.
