    Good Day-

I received two new of the fancy emmisive keyboards for my CF-29s. One is for a Mk1 and one for a mk5. These are the three cable type with all plastic keys. Not the rubber versions. I made sure gto "flip" the third ribbon cable over so the bare connector is facing up.

I installed one (S#4535) and all worked OK except the back lite does not "latch" on. It stays on as long as you hold down the Fn and F12 keys. Let up and the light goes out.

I tryed it on a 29 Mk1 then a Mk5 with the same results. Any ideas on what Iam doing wrong?

The second (S#4532) KB has the same problem but also the following keys do not work: 2,3,4,,,,8,0,q,t,y,u,i,,,a,s,d,f,x,c and the same problem with the light. I again tryed it on a 29 Mk1 and a Mk5 with same results. This one looks like it may be a bad KB. Any ideas?

The rubber versions work fine with the back lite working as is it should.

    Thanks for the help :)

Could you look at the flat cable on them and see if all contacts are fine

    I edited my post Rob
We both sell the same keyboards, and they are perfect brand new with 0 issues
I wonder if the laptop has issues with the connectors
Partial contact on one of the two keyboard data cables would cause dead keys

    Thanks for the ideas.
I have tried other KBs on these two 29s and they work OK. I will clean the ribbon contacts and the connectors on the TB and try again.

I will let you know what happens.

The one I got from you and installed into my Mk3 CF-29HTM50BM works perfectly (I'm typing on it right now :)).

I cleaned the contacts and the connectors. Still same problem with one KB with a bad light an done with bad light and a bunch of keys that don't work.

I put in other KBs and they work OK so it looks like new KBs have a problem.

I will try in a friends 29 Mk2 tomorrow and see what happens.

Thanks for the ideas. I sure hope I don't have two bad 29s :)

I had a cf-29 mk-1 that I tried to install a backlite rubber keyboard on unsuccessfully
I ended up using the older style 2 connector rubber backlite keyboard

I think the power circuitry was blown , most likely from myself messing around with it, as I owned it from since new

    Update-

I got a bunch of sticky (residue from duble sided tape) stuff off the small ribbon cable and now the back lite works great on one KB. The other one still has about half the keys dead. I tryed it on two different 29s with the same results. I will try it out on a friends 29 later tonight.

    Thanks again for the ideas.

    @ n7qqu

It great you found the problem with one keyboard but on the other if the contacts are not damaged and there is nothing sticking to it, looks like you will need to RMA it

It sounds like a damaged keyboard

Every time I have seen this problem it was because the connectors were not fully locked down so make sure the cables are fully inserted and the locking clips are fully locked down otherwise you will get a bad connection.
