The battery died on my CF-29 and it shut off. I plugged the adapter back in but nothing, no lights, nada.... adapter is outputting correct voltage but it's dead.. :( Is there something I have to reset? I pulled the battery out and reinserted. If the battery is bad would it prevent the system from starting even though it's on AC now? This is my work laptop and really need it working.....ugh

I suppose try leaving it plugged in a few hours, and if that doesn't work, pull the battery...

But it does sound like something else (And worse) is happening.

What were you doing before it died, and did it involve the keyboard getting thirsty?

    HI,
I had a similar problem on my CF-29 a couple of weeks ago. After trying all the things you tried, I pulled the batteries out, unplugged the AC adaptor and let it sit for 24 hours. I came home from work, installed the battery (the main one first) plugged in the adaptor and everything worked!! Then I installed the Aux battery. Still worked. Continues to work. Problem appears to be solved.

Just what happened I don't know. Perhaps there was an overheating problem during charging?? You have nothing to loose by trying this highly scientific repair. :)

BTW, while still holding a charge, I had noticed that my Aux battery was loosing capability. I have ordered a replacement. These suckers are expensive and semi hard to find! I guess that not too many folks use an Aux battery.

It was just sitting on my bed closed.... it's weird... I left everything unplugged all night but no joy this morning... oh well... they'll have to send me another one.... My company uses the exact configuration for all of our CF-29's... can I just move the HD from this one to a new one?

Yes... You can swap out the hard drive if it is the same configuration.

You can't even look into the BIOS? Does the power cord jiggle when it is plugged in? (Maybe a loose power connection?)

If the power cord is making a connection, he should be able to see the charging light come one if the battery is installed.. I wonder if that's happening?

    Otacon,
I'm curious, but what's the model number of the 29's adapter? Incompatibility perhaps?? I vaguely recall that CF-51 and 29 does not share similar adapters as the rest. From memory, it *might* be CF-AA1653A (could be wrong).

Sounds like the smoke snuk out of your machine during the night, it could be any number of things most likely a blown microfuse on the motherboard, but if it's a company laptop and you are under warranty there is no point in going into too much troubleshooting detail. Just send it back and get another one.
