I recently purchased a used Cf-29 this is a MK5 with a touch screen with only 3300 hrs on the clock.

The touch screen did not work but no big deal to me. The display and protector were perfect but not as clear as I'm use to with a regular laptop display. I removed the protector film using a hairdryer and that has helped but the display is still a bit fuzzy and seems back set under another layer of something in front of it. Is there anything I can do to make the display clearer and have a less narrow view angle ?

    Thanks Tim

No. These screens are SEALED TIGHT from water and dust and other crud. There are about 4-5 layers to protect the actual LCD screen.

All other inferior laptops (AKA, any laptop that isn't a Toughbook), has it so you can touch the LCD DIRECTLY... That is just BAD!

    Sorry.

P.S, Jeff (sadlmkr) can explain the screen layers in more detail. Jeff, take it away!

    Thanks

Under the screen protector is a sort of fuzzy coating (maybe a anti reflective coating) can that be polished off to improve things ?

    Starting from the front:
    Screen protector
    Two layer touch panel
    LCD

The outer touch panel layer may be cleaned. I've used windex, isopropyl alcohol and other not recommended products...cause it's 34 miles to town (round trip) and I use what I have. A drop of dish soap in water and a diaper work pretty good.
You still have two layers of aged material to look through. If it's not cleared up to suit you by cleaning I suggest a new touch panel. Solves two issues. And they are very nice to look through.

Use a tiny bit of de-greaser (drop of dish soap) and a very soft cloth. Avoid products that melt/dissolve plastic. :D Then polish.

OK thanks Jeff I think it's the extra layers I'm not use to.

And be mindful; when he says a diaper, he means good old cotton or flannel cloth diaper, NOT Pampers. That mesh & water absorbent gel will not improve matters, I promise you. You'll NEVER make a Toughbook seem as crisp and clear as a consumer grade laptop; they have so many layers to protect plus the touchscreen. Other members HAVE successfully removed the Touchscreen & replaced it with a sheet of clear lexan; this is not a job for first-timers, but it also isn't terribly difficult. You will need to glue the lexan in with clear silicone sealant to preserve your ToughBook's water resistance, however. I'll also recommend you install a good screen protector, like the one from ScreenPatronus on eBay, the instant the silicone is dry.

I cut out another plastic cover that was under the screen protector. I started in one corner and used a utility knife with a sharp blade and cut 1" in two directions. Once I could get under it a bit and lift it, it fairly easy to cut around the rest of the perimeter. This plastic sheet is a little thicker then the screen protector and was a bit yellowed and fuzzy to look through. The screen under is gorgeous, clear and with what appears to be perfect color.

Makes my nice Dell laptop display look like junk.
