I just got a CF-29LWQGBBM and the GPS doesn't work at all.
Don't know if it has ever worked because the laptop came with a wiped hard drive and
I copied a drive image from another Mk4 to it. Then it got the jumping mouse which was cured with the patch from Panasonic.
Then installed and opened Winfast Navigator, clicked "connect" and it shows no data at all.
Here is what has been done in my attempt to get this thing working. Bios is set to default settings and GPS is set to AUTO.
I have pulled out the GPS module and re-seated it twice in the hopes of improving a connection there.
Now, as I understand from reading posts here, GPS should be on com 3 at 4800 bauds, correct?
This machine has coms 1,3 and 6 in device manager with no mention of a GPS. Should GPS be in device manager? Also, Navigator only allows me a choice com 1 or com 6. That makes it tough to get on com 3 if that's what is needed.
Doesn't the jumping mouse indicate the presence of a GPS ?

Check your email.
Give the machine a good look at the sky for 15 minutes or so.
And yes the jumpy mouse is your computer thinking the GPS is a deranged mouse.
It appears that you have been reading and the only thing I would add is the GPS must be off before running skipenum. You probably saw that. And only run once.

Just tried that utility GPSINFO and it shows com 1,3,6=no device. That's with GPS bios in both auto and enable.

What I am trying to figure is why you have three Com Ports up.
I drug my LTQ out and it is using Com 1 only. No GPS.
A couple of questions:
1. This is OEM GPS?
2. Do you have a keyboard, mouse or auxiliary drive connected?
3. In [system] do you show more than one mouse driver? Should only be tscreen/tpad.
What I would do on MY machine is disable all com ports and let windows set them up again on a re-boot. Maybe with the GPS off. Then check com ports again.
Others will chime in after a bit but that is my take at this point.
Oh yeah, on gps info did it run through all the bauds? Or just 4800.
Hang in there.

Your comport are not configure properly. Here what you gonna do. Uninstall com port 3 and 6. Then reboot. On screen with panasonic logo hit F2 to enter the bios page. Disable GPS. Then reboot again up to windows. It will detect one device only. After it was detected and installed check the device mgr. what com port it is. It must be com 2( com 2 use for TS & com 1 for serial port, either way). Again shutdown the pc and reboot again then to bios page again. This time set the GPS to auto then exit and save. Let the pc open again and it will detect another device and install the driver. Then go to device mgr. what com port added and it must be for gps. Let me know the outcome coz if it doesn't work you need to configure it manually on which I will explain later. But first do it what I said before we go to another. It may work the first instruction.

1. Yes
2 .No
3. Only TS and TP
Ran GPSINFO through all bauds
Thanks

Followed your instructions here's what happened: with GPS off com 6 reinstalls itself. Uninstalled 6 again, set GPS to auto and then in Windows a serial ball point mouse gets installed and jumps around. Forced a shutdown, rebooted, and now com 1,3,6 are all back and a normal mouse. Here we go again. Never saw com 2 and TS works good. When you have time could you explain the manual method?
I appreciate your help.

From the above I'm guessing:
1. /GPS/skipenum did not "take".
2. Com 6 is not the GPS.
With no extras plugged in:
boot and [f2]
Disable GPS in bios.
[f10]
run skipenum ....this modifies the registry
re-boot [f2] set gps to auto
COM 1,3 and 6 are present?
In device manager right click com3 [properties]
Try changing Port Settings to 4800 [ok]
exit and re-boot
From your description you should now have com 1,3,6. I don't know what 6 is but am assuming com3 appears/disappears on gps enable/disable.
FWIW until Ohlip gets off work.

Today I was working on getting the factory GPS on my CF-18 MK5 set up and running. On my other MK5 on my compact flash gps it lists the device when I am using virtualGPS or winfast. Well it didn't list it like on my compact flash GPS. Port 1 and port 2 showed "communication device" with the rest blank. I got it to work using COM 2. Took a little bit to pop up but it did. (BIOS SET TO AUTO ON GPS) (I only added the two registry patches with gps disabled)

Well, the mouse pointer isn't skipping now, so I presume skipenum is doing what it is supposed to do. Com 3 is set to 4800,and yes, com3 appears/disappears on gps enable/disable. Gpsinfo still>no device.
Philip -
Does your COM 2 show a gps device now or is it still blank?

Hi Ohlip
I am Philip of Florida. -
Ok! Thanks, I ask coz something with me and the guy I mentioned above.
Now! lets go to your problem. We now identified that the GPS port is at com 3. Here what you gonna do. Go to device mgr., then to com 3 which is the gps port based on your account. Then go to its properties. Uder the properties, go to port setting. Do not adjust anything and if you done something before hit default setting so that it will go back to its original setting. Now after that hit advance tab. It will display another windows, you will see at the the buttom com port no. Change it to com 7 then hit ok to save everything and then reboot. After that verify the GPS on GPS info if it will be detectied. let me know what happened, If it still not doin something right. get back to me.
I am on standby.
Edit: make sure com 7 not inuse. All port will be display wether in use or not.

Hey man, (teo)((aka ohlip))
I knew you would be here.
So what "may" be going on is his com 3 may be in use by another program? Is that kinda right? And by switching to com 7 the conflict is resolved?
I'm looking at my old 29L and it shows 2,3,4 and 5 in use but they don't show-up in device manager. This is cool. I'm going to bookmark your instructions for sure.
Thanks for the help to everyone.

Jeff! Sometimes the port use by other device like when you dock the pc to the docking station which has another serial. Also use by modem. We don't know for sure if Philip has WWAN on the system and its also uses another serial port.
I'm guessing that com 6 that always display when he uninstalled it, is the serial port at the back of pc and com 1 is the TS
If philip return without a success. The one thing for sure the problem is, a conflict of its resources and it need to be adjusted manually.
ohlip -
Did that and guess what!
Gpsinfo says COM7>>> GPS Receiver
Opened Visual GPS program and there are numbers streaming!
If only you could see the the smile on my face!!
OK - the laptop is outside for a while to see what it picks up.
Funny thing - while changing com3, the list of ports notes COM2 in use (as well as 1 and 6) but com2 never showed up in device manager. Com 2 was also mentioned by others here as being used for GPS.
Now tell us...why com 7 ?
Philip -
Gald I can help. The port that in use that doesn't display on the dvice mgr. either your two PCMCIA port. Its also use com port for your info.
Com 3 for sure has a problem with its resources while com 7 is free no conflict. You can change it again if you want to the port which not in use but sometime it resources has a conflict to another. You can use any port as long it is free and its on the list.

Hello all, I used these instructions to get my GPS working in my CF-29ETPGZKM.
Thanks for the great info. -
I had a similar problem, and I tried installing the GPS and disabling the modem, and it turns out I am one of many who when installing W7 wind up having the Agere Systems AC'97 modem on COM3 conflicting the GPS. Once I installed the GPS registry patch and changed the Port Settings on the Agere modem to use COM4, then GPS began to work just fine
