Hi, After reading forum stickys, threads and try to get the correct pig tail for the sierra 850. I finally did it.
As you can see, the pigtail is too long. I just roll it around.
One end of the pig tail plug in the bottom of keyboard pcb directly under the antenna wire, the other end into the sierra 850.
The antenna's blue wire from the top of lcd is connected to CN951 on top of the keyboard pcb. Thanks to everyone on the forum.

Am I missing something? I'm sorry.. But why on Earth would you want to install wifi in the CF-29 like this..... This smacks of CF-28 or CF-M34 installs gone awry.....

The CF-29 has a twin antenna system that works GREAT... You just need the mini-pci card.... Or is this one of those McGyver type, "You have a paper clip, a styrofoam cup and a needle and you have to save the world" type deal?

Are you going to upgrade to the 880? I saw the note on their website that said they stopped all support for the 850 in dec 09 and stoppped making them in 07.

Nevermind I see the 880 isnt a flush card

Skytop...You may use the passthru connector for docking station instead of hooking it up to the u.fl on the keyboard pcb. It is the standard installation for WWAN. It means if you use it in a car with dock mount, you have a choice to have an extended antena outside the vehicle for better signal even if you are on the road. The pass thru connector has two u.fl connector to! one at the buttom and one at the top

I spend my money on the external magnatic base antenna, and several other. Still this mod gave me the best reception. I'm working inside the control room, inside the building. This is very bad on the signal. This mod improved about two bars.

Thank you Ohlip. This is the cf-29 MK5 that I did the mod on. I use the antenna from the cf-29 MK3 SBC version. I unplug the u.fl from the pass through from the MK3, but when I look at the MK5 it is either not there or already occupied with the wifi antenna. I actually had to run the wire from the antenna diagonally in order to reach the keyboard pcb. When I have time, I will open it up and check again.

Thank you Tomcat for fixing my pictures. This is the first thread and a second time that I ever post on a forum. I will do better the next time.
Thanks Klonsdale for trying to help. The pigtail on your link is for WIFI. The mod is for mobile broadband -WWan-

DOH... Im not into the wireless cards much... I've never been the road warrior that needs it... But I just got a Droid and got PDANet so I can surf on my Toughbook anytime I need to now just by tethering. AS long as I don't go hog wil by downloading movies.... They won't care/know...

(Besides.... I have fiber optic at the desktop for that.)

I do that with my BlackBerry every day. Recently I found out I could also connect to the BlackBerry using Bluetooth and get internet. Easier in cars and airports without a tether cord.

CelticFrog. I ordered 5 of this SSMB female right angle to u.fl connector pigtails, because I have 3 cf-29 and one cf-18. I was going to keep one for spare, but if you or anyone need it just PM me. The pigtail is long because I was going to run it directly from the sierra 850 card to the antenna on top of the LCD, but I changed my mind after I see what it looks like inside.

hello skytop. no, i found a cable in germany, it works fine inside my CF29, thanks. my cable is shorter, and a bigger diameter, hard to build in. i think it´s better as a wireless connection with my PDA.

You're welcome, CelticFrog. I'm just currious. How long did it take you to get it from Germany? It took 29 days for me to get it from China. One good thing about it, they did communicate with me regularly until I told them I got the item.

I noticed that you have a cf-29; SBC version. I also have this. Did you run the antenna the way that Ohlip suggested to me? connect to the passthru. I will check this out when I get home next week.
