    Hi guys,

    I'm trying to know what the heck this model number on my TB mean (BIOS model nomber):

    CF-29E3K25G2

    E= obviously, MK2 machine (right!)
    3= 13,3 XGA (wrong: my machine is touch, so the right must be T)
    K= 40gb hdd, 256 mb ram (right, but I upgrade hdd to 160 ide)
    2= ??????
    5= Salt resistant? (What the heck is this?)
    G= WinXP Pro MUI (¿?)
    2= ??????

    By the way, in the case it have another model number, and this confuse me a lot more: CF-29E3KGZKM

    G= Floppy, Ethernet (it has floppy and ethernet)
    Z= ???????
    K= WinXP Pro
    M= USA & Canada

    Do you know what is "Salt resistant"?
    And the other letters that I don't know what mean.

    Thanks!

    Salt resistant was an option. I think they were just sealed better. It sounds like someone may have replaced the base or motherboard.

    The 25 in the center of the serial indicates that it was originally built for Volvo. The 2 at the end means that the original destination was Europe.
    I think MUI is multiple user interface.

    It make a lot of sense, because the guy that sell this toughbook to me work on as a mechanic on some garage. Where do you find this information (Volvo as code 25)

    Europe for destination make sense again (Volvo, Sweeden), and MUI confirm that.

    Thanks!

    Start with a link to CF-29 Model Number Deciphering for the general gist of standard models & some of the Customer Special Configuration Numbers.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/panasonic/540718-cf-29-model-number-deciphering.html

    In addition to the information in the above thread there are non-standard combinations of keyboard & AC power cords resulting in a change of the Country Designation Letter in the model number to a Number Designation:

    2....UK keyboard with Continental AC power cord & XP Pro Multilingual User Interface.
    3....US keyboard with Continental AC power cord & XP Pro Multilingual User Interface.

    Not sure of all the combinations available & the relevant numbers but you can get an Arabic keyboard with a Continental power cord & such.

    From the above....if your model number ends in "2" & you replace the UK standard keyboard with a US emissive keyboard & a US AC power cord you have in effect an "M" but retain the confusion of the model number ending in "2".

    Also....CF-29 Customer Special Configuration Number 25 (Volvo) will be a Standard Configuration for Volvo Dealerships not Volvo Sweden, hence the keyboard/AC power cord combinations & Multilingual User Interface XP Pro.

    Hi, I have (I want to buy one) very strange model number:

    CF-29LTQCHLS'

    I've checked in Panasonic Configurator (and manual ones of course), but i cannot find anything more than info about that mk4, 13'' screen, 80GB, Floppy, Ethernet, BT.
    It also have a verry strange attachment in place of SD card reader - see the pictures - do anybody know what is this? :

    no idea yet....I would like to see a better photo. I am curious.

    It actually looks like it goes in the PCMCIA slots..The smartcard reader on a cf29 is on the other side.
    It goes where the hdspa/ WWAN sled is in that model.

    Actually I don't have better photo, but probably I'll drive to shop tomorrow and check how it looks. My biggest concern is that it could make notebook non-waterproof :/

    After some research - it could be the smartcard reader in some kind of federal/goverment version, who knows? But anyway i hope to check it tomorrow... and maybe buy :D

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/panasonic/520568-cf-29ntwgzbm-questions.html

    The last post of the first page has some pictures of the CF-29 smart card reader in it's factory location.

    A swipe of some type seems what it maybe. I just got rid of a CF-07 remote screen that had a magnetic strip swipe and a fingerprint reader. (Mobile Data Wireless Display
    with Magnetic Stripe Reader and Fingerprint Scanner CF-VDW07RFHM) It may be some kind of aftermarket reader???

    I've seen that factory smart card reader, but that one which we are discussing is for Sweden - so it could have some rare one smartcard, or eaven installed after production - in Sweden. It could be swipe, but for me the shape suggest that you put card inside - looks like cut-out for finger - like on my draft down here:
    card.jpg

    AAaand I was right :p It was screwed to the pcmcia latch (which had a hole made in it) and there suppose to be pcmcia smartcard/chipcard reader (it was in one, but i took another). I bought whitout it - seller chaned it from other toughbook (1.4GHz) to 1.6 GHz which i wanted to buy ;) I didn't want to make it non-waterproof ;)
