Hello. I have "new" 20 hours of total use in the BIOS, CF-29 Mk V.
The complete model number is: CF-29NTQGZBM.
So far I changed the HD to 160GB Samsung Spinpoint HM160HC, added 1GB
memory module Crucial PC2-5300 for the total: 1536MB RAM, changed keyboard to emissive (new) and added microphone from CF-28.
My intention is to use Windows 7 with this machine. Will it take 64 BIT version
of Windows 7 Ultimate or do I have to use 32 BIT version? Please don't get mad at me, as I'm shure this was covered. Did anybody made disk with the drivers yet? Thank you, regards, Voytek.

Stay with a 32 bit version for compatability , 64 is needed if you exceed 4GB of ram, and you will have issues with drivers

What programs are you planning to run ?

Hello Alex. This machine will be mostly used for navigation and systems monitoring on my sailboat. I will be using new Nobeltec VNS 10 nav software,
PC radar. AC/DC monitor, Yanmar engine monitor and others. All are Win 7
compatible. Also it will be used for music and movies as well as Skype calls.
I will ask Teo to install the microphone from CF-28. I will use external GPS.
By the way, thanks for the board and the disks. Regards, Voytek.

I have retail version of Windows 7 Ultimate. Have disk for 32 BIT and disk for 64 BIT. Do I make a partition for operating system or just load it on the whole drive? What file system schould I use? Will the 32 BIT version have drivers included, or do I have to download them from Panasonic? Thanks.

You will use a ntfs file system and for w7 use the whole hard drive
I have not /will not install w7 on the cf-29's ,but I beleve that you will have to download the Vista upgrade drivers from the panasonic downloads area as per instructions in other threads
What drivers , I don't have a clue , but look and see what is not working after the w7 install

Here is the thread on the CF-29 W7 started by Azrial http://forum.notebookreview.com/panasonic/443786-win7-pro-cf-29-a.html READ it all before you upgrade , trust me you will need to
I did have W7 installed on my 29N and messed with it for 3 weeks. One thing was playing a movie, it would freeze up using Media Player and VLC half way into a movie. I just gave up......XP Pro worked great and was fast with NO PROBLEMS. My feelings was I needed the 2GB ram that Azrial had in his to make it work right. Also you will not get the Areo interface on the 29. Download "Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor" , it will give you an idea what you will need to do, what programs you have installed now that will or will not work after the upgrade to W7

Alex, I spent hours on it, it installed great and even installed the video drivers a few days later but if I was to spend 2 hours on it surfing the internet it would start freezing up. Could not do nothing at all so I would have to hold the power button on until it shut down. I would use this at the camp watching movies but half way into it, it would slow down and then freeze again. XP run great so it was stupid for me to upgrade to 7......the only big difference is the Areo and you don't have that on the 29 so why upgrade
On my CF-30 W7 works great....no problems at all :)

On my cf-30 mk-1 I had a couple of strange video issues + w7 did not work right for some software that I was using
Mainly some software runs very slowly on w7 , and some software is just not compatible
It's fine on my mk-2 cf-30 , but I spent several hundred dollars on upgraded software
The mk-2 cf-30 has 384mb of ram reserved for video and with that amount allowed me to play blue-ray movies , the mk-1 only has 256 or less and was not compatible with any blueray playback software

I have an extra caddy/hard drive with xp for compatibility with older software that I use

My main laptop, the cf-19 has w7 and its fine for intenet use, and I have a spare caddy/hard drive with xp again for software that is non-compatible with w7

The removable caddys are a must have item

No parts needed, just wondering if the gamble of purchasing a water damaged Toughbook paid off
I would think all electronic items would be unusable ,so the salvaged parts would only be chassis
My thinking when I buy parts for the future is the most desired items are the things that are most damaged or items that might ware-out or are sometimes not included
Caddy's both hard drive and optical are not always included, and I have spare complete displays as it's not uncommon to find a Toughbook with a cracked screen

I'm still not happy with the cf-19 that I've bought and sold recently it must be at least $1,500.00. I've sold it less than that as I need a money immediately.

    Maybe next time.

It's your fault you sold to to a reseller

Thats why things cost so much , too many middleman in slick suits with smooth talking fancy sales pitches :chatterbox:

They upcharge and resell for top dollar ,using sweatshop labour to detail and sometimes repaint

Ohh , don't get me started :nah:

Yes Teo we both could of done better but at least we sold them fast and did not have to sit on them for a while. I have been watching a few higher priced ones $1500-$1700 with GPS and they are not selling....at least the ones I have seen.
Gotta thank you for this because I would not be sitting in front of this 30 if I did not read you post when I did....luck or what :D ....and looking at that very nice leather slip case  thank you very much .....now to  again.

Go to the link in my sig for answers on installing W7 32 Bit on a CF-29. There is no reason to use 64 Bit with the RAM limitation of this machine.

    HTH!

W7 on a Mk3. Looks pretty gonna see if I can get those MK4 drivers to magicly work. Only issues I have are the hot keys and touch screen. It told me the emmissive was a unsupported CF-50 keyboard.
