This is probably not too bad for the budget conscience who don't want to mess with anything but buying it and using it. But I think there might be better deals out there is you shop for bare bones and build it yourself. I mean... Add GPS, Emissive keyboard and a few other things and you're up there. I think there are better deals... But I would be VERY curious about the condition of these laptops...

snapped one up for $430 just recently. It arrived today. CF-29Hxxxxxx, making it a MK 3 I believe. I plugged the original charger in to the wall, and fired it up. It even came with a plastic touchscreen protector, so I immediately windexed the screen and placed the plastic on. I went to finalize the winxp referbished comp edition setup when the computer died. What the hell!? Upon closer inspection, the computer isnt getting any juice from the charger... hrm... oh! that nasty looking frayed section of insulator popping through the jacket of the cable is probably a bad thing! I immediately called the 800 number on the piece of paper that came in the box, and within 4 minutes the nice lady on the line had my address and said they were shipping me another power cord asap. No hassles at all. We'll see if the new power cord fixes the problem.

mine came with the extending antenna on the screen, and I'm looking into an emissive keyboard. It looks in great cosmetic shape, the doors are a bit dinged on the opening tabs and the black bottom is slightly chipped at the corners, but nothing that bothers me at all, especially from the top side. I'm sure there are better deals, but I wanted to have one that was at least DOA proof, and build from there. I believe I can add 1gb of DDR2 (because it supposedly comes with 512mb onboard) but I am not sure which ram exactly the computer supports, ie ddr2 400/533/667/800. Also, with the cooldrives adapter I can swap out the hard drive for a 500gb sata drive if I modify the drive caddy. I liked the looks of the seagate momentus 7200rpm 3gb/s drive, even though I'll only have a screaming 133mb/s transfer rate through the adapter. If I've missed the mark on this, please feel free to correct me.

Found out that its DDR1 333mhz PC2700 is the chip for this machine, answering my own question. Also, I'm now considering just adding a 320gb western digital IDE style hard drive instead of messing with the conversion, as I don't have to cut the caddy and it's the close to the same cost of a SATA drive with the converter, as that's 2 retailers worth of shipping and handling charges.

as would have I, but they're sold out at the moment. From what I can tell, the only cf-29s they have are the LT models for $660. They are nice enough, but I'm not sure I want to shell out that level of cash for a laptop that still uses DDR1, as tigerdirect claims.

I think you need to read a little more. Only the MK4 models with 256MB base RAM can take that increase.... I doubt they sell those...

no, I know that. I think the ones from tiger are 1gb on board, which is an oddity, but not eligible for the over 2gb boost in ram, I was just saying that I had thought that I had read that the mark 4 and 5 laptops used DDR2 ram and the 1-3s used DDR1 in the threads that addressed that over-factory-rated ram discovery. That's why I thought it was so weird when I read that the tiger machines were 1.6ghz processor, DDR1 ram equipped machines...
