Looks like a CF-29 works happily in a snowbank in -36ºC weather! :)

Went camping in Algonquin Park in Ontario (Canada) last week... arrived on the last day of an insanely cold cold spell. The park warden said it was -48ºC with windchill before we got there. So before I shut down the computer for good for several days, fired up my Telus aircard, threw the CF-29 in a snowbank and took a pic.

Well, to be fair, (since I have a Macbook Pro with a Mac Mini server, and my family has 3 more Macbooks) ... they weren't really designed to be thrown into the snow. :p However, I'd like to see the ToughDells go through some torture tests!

You can be pretty rough with a thinkpad. I have dropped mine a few times and its fine. I think Apple should make a rugged notebook. I bet they would make a nice one. For now I will stick to my toughbook. :D

Hmm, well I am here at college and will be getting my (working) CF-28 this week and I love taking pics and vids. Is there anything you guys want to see the toughbook in or doing? I am in college and need some inspiration for my Gen Ed photo class. I just thought you guys have better ideas than I do ^.^

Wouldn't that cold of temperature reek havoc on your battery pack?

Guess not. It was out in the car in no more than -20 cold for three days on standby... and still had 85% battery left. The cars were on block heaters for the last night... but the Toughbook had to tough it out. (har har.)

Technically if you don't go -40 or below the cold is good for Lithium packs. I keep mine stored in my ghetto ultra freezer at -10F. It cuts memory loss of the cells down to .5% if stored at 50% charge first.

    Here the ultimate reference!

Well here is one shot of some torture. No snow here so rain will have to do. It was pouring outside so i figured why not right?

I gotta find some more things to do to it :)

    James,

When I saw your posted photo. I am very excited to see that on ebay for parts coz I know it will gonna be cheaper and maybe I can fix the burn area or the short circuited area. LOL
