Hi, just purchased a used CF-29E3KGZKM, and after running the battery recalibration utility last night (where it cyles through a charge/discharge) now the computer will not boot up into Windows. It goes through the bios loading and then screen goes blank with flashing cursor in upper left hand corners. I'm thinking the hard drive is bad, but wanted your input on path to follow from here. Thank you from the Ocean State

Question is the hard drive caddy firmly in place?
    Take it out and reinsert

Yes it is. First thing I did was to take out and re-insert the battery & HD

Enter bios and make sure it finds the hdd. Sometimes the caddy is mounted but the connector is seated wrong.

Thank You ALL for your thoughts on this matter. I've tried that and then swapped out the HD from another used ToughBook and everything boots up fine so I'm thinking it must be the HD and/or connection via the caddy. I'm going to format a new drive and get her up and running soon.
I've only done this with SSD in Dell Mini 9's and 10V using Lunux. Is there a special order to install Windows XP Pro & the Drivers for ToughBook?
    Thank You Again. Regards, "Cleve"

Thanks Jeff. The link you referred me to has this in line 2:
Step 2 - At this stage it will ask you to press F6 if you want to install a third party Raid or SCSI driver. If you are using a an IDE Hard Drive then you do not need to press F6. If you are using a SCSI or SATA Hard drive then you must press F6 otherwise Windows will not detect your Hard Drive during the installation. Please make sure you have the Raid drivers on a floppy disk. Normally the drivers are supplied on a CD which you can copy to a floppy disk ready to be installed. If you are not sure how to do this then please read your motherboard manuals for more information.
I do have a floppy drive but have not used one in many years. Is there a way to do this without? i.e. with a usb and/or external HD?
    Regards, Cleve

    @UNCNDL1

I recomend using the recovery cd's for this
However I beleve your SBC will not load these disks, as it was reported a few years ago by a member
There was a workaround posted here, that had some success and worked for me on a cf-18

Maybe one of our many members here that have the SBC models can enlighten us
I would like to know myself if any of the restore cd's work on this model

The Panasonic CF-29 Series Product Recovery CD-ROM Set MK3-XP2M-TSW works just fine on my CF-29HTM50BM retired SBC Toughbooks

That being said, the unit in question ( CF-29E3KGZKM) is not an SBC unit:

    Model Number: CF-29E3KGZKM
    Status: DISCONTINUED
    MSRP: $4,040
    Description: Intel® Pentium M 1.3GHz LV (Centrino), 13.3" Transmissive NON-touch XGA, 256MB RAM, 40GB HDD, Intel® 802.11b+g WLAN , Windows XP Professional

Finally, the first thing I would try here is to use an OEM XP CD to attempt to use the Recovery Console to repair the original Windows installation.

Thats the problem when we jump to conclusions here, his first post was
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/panasonic/625398-questions-cf-29-a-13.html#post8091440

That being said I highly recommend the use of panasonic restore cd's

If you go the long way

If you are using a oem xp pro disc if its not sp3,make sure its updated to sp3 first before any drivers are loaded
Then the chip-set driver gets installed
    Followed by video,
You can wing it after that most likely , I have had no issues with functions not working installing drivers in a different order

Don't install Intel proset, just the wi-fi driver, and don't use the old panasonic one if you can help it
Look for the latest from Intel

Just change the model number in the BIOS and the restore CDs will work.

ALL IS GOOD Now with Tough Book & re-install of XP, That "little" COA sticker on the bottom is/was a real Pain-Had to go buy a magnifying glass to appreciate those well worn numberals & letter...Drivers all loaded after
xp without a hitch including Wireless...Doing Updates now and then will use
acronis to make a back up copy of system.
THE POST(S) on HD Removal & Replacement were right on, thank you all!
