Greetings all you rugged junkies, I have been slowly working the bugs out of my recently aquired TB, the previous owner claimed to have done a "fresh install" of Win XP SP3 but neglected to install many of the drivers such as touchscreen and hot keys which are now working. With the help of this amazing wealth of information I have an almost fully functional CF-29. The remaining problem is an intermittant condition that presents itself upon booting up about half the time. The desktop freaks out and windows pop up, drop down menus appear, the mouse jumps all over the screen with no control at the touch pad. The only recourse is to power down and re-start, sometimes a few times to get it to stop. Once I get a normal start up I can use it all day without any problems, even if I let it go to standby, it will wake up ok. I was thinking about buying the proper recovery disk from Heartland and giving it a try. I have run a complete Norton virus and malwarebytes scan along with registry repair wizard. Cleaned up a few hijackers but to no avail. It also starts up ok in safe mode every time. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Suggest re-reading TopCop's response in your other thread. Looks like your CF-29 has a built-in GPS. These symptoms sound like the "jumping mouse" problem that is fixed with the registry patch.

I did try installing the GPS patch but got an error message to the effect that it did not apply to this model and from what I understand this unit has the verizon CDMA sled with dual pass antenna, which I thought was installed where the GPS unit would go if it had that option. But not sure if it can have both.

can't find anything in device manager related to GPS, will it show up if the driver was never installed? Not sure how to proceed if there is no software or driver installed for the gps, how would I install the patch?

You need to VERIFY you have GPS installed. Go into BIOS and see if GPS is listed there. If so, disable it and try rebooting to see what happens. If GPS is not listed, you have other problems. Probably a combination of incorrect drivers and other programs.

I did verify I have GPS installed and when I disable it in the BIOS my problem goes away. I am trying to install the drivers, filters and patch as described in the instructions and when I try to run "gpsfilter.exe" I get a message stating "application gpsfilter.exe" can not be run in win 32 mode ??
any ideas? -
Two ideas right now. First, it seems like the file is corrupted. Download it again. Next, boot in safe mode and try running it again. IIRC, you must go into BIOS, disable GPS, boot into Windows, run the program then go back into BIOS and enable GPS.

I have successfully installed the GPS drivers, filters and patch. I installed Visual GPS and it seems to be working great. I'm picking up 8 sats with good signal and no more annoying screen freaking out when I boot up. Now does anyone know how to adapt the OEM GPS to a more practical software version such as Bridge which allows you to use Google Earth as a GPS mapping and locator program. Most of the programs I have looked at either require a serial or usb connection to the GPS reciever whereas this one being internal how would you route the data from the internal reciever to the software?

Look in Windows Device Manager for the COM port number assigned to the GPS: that's the one you will configure the software to "hear."
