I got a trade in in my shop for a local private investegator that traded in a CF-29ETKCWKM for a minty, shiny CF-30.

Anyways: Quick back story: The CF-29 has always worked just perfect (Mark over at Renew PC sold it to him years back). Touchscreen worked and everything. Anyways, I went to reload the damn thing and the mouse is jumping around like it's on crack! So I thought to simply clone it from the image I have (instead of manually reloading it), and that doesn't work either.

I've removed all RAM and am running on the on-board 256MB. I also tried disabling the touchscreen AND the touchpad and it still jumps around all over the place. It is simply un-usable in it's current state.

Before I go ripping the damn thing apart to re-seat ribbon cables and yada yada, is there anything else I can try?!?!?

Why would it just start doing this now after that it's been freshly loaded and worked fine before it was reloaded!?!?!?

I agree GPS driver. Gotta reboot until it comes off the crack and then find the updated driver. Do a search on here I figured it out a couple years back. There should be a link.

It could be one of two reasons

    Sudden violent movements ?
Sounds like it's on it's last legs
Sort of like something about to die,the last death throes
I have seen a few Toughbooks for sale on ebay over the years where the seller states the mouse curser jumps all over the screen

I'm slightly interested at this point in buying this problematic model from you
I can salvage the hard drive and caddy ,and ac adapter ,optical ,and maybe the ram
Might buy the whole thing for parts...thinking $200 or so
Let me know right away though as you are softened up a bit now ,most likely wanting to throw it in the trash bin

The other thing is what we call the crazy mouse problem where the device manager finds a serial ballpoint mouse and excepts input from the gps and it takes over your curser( 100% sure thats it) and Cap pointed you in the right direction

My random issue was putting the touchscreen driver on the wrong mouse in device manager. Touchscreen worked mouse was erratic.

Crazy mouse? Maybe it had a little mousey fight with its little mousey girlfriend and decided to drown its sorrows in a bottle of Mezcal. Give it through the weekend to finish the bottle and clear its head; by Monday it should be right as rain. Or it might show up at work and barf all over your shoes...

HOW THE HECK did you know that we were having a party?!?! Yeah, this morning was a bit rough... :D

Anyways, I disabled the GPS and it's good now! :) THANKS GUYS! I didn't even realize that this thing had GPS in it... I didn't see any antenna (like on the 30) and no nub (like the 19's).

    Thanks again!

Yes! thats the culprit! Anyway, I just bought CF-30 3 weeks ago and I received it today. I was shocked coz the seller didn't even wrap it. He just put on a priority mail box together with the AC adapter without nothing. I'm a bit nervous when the delivery guy gave it to me coz there are something like it just turn into pcs. when I shake the box, I open it carefully as like a christmas gift, lol and into my amazement Its all intact with no problem at all and booted up right away, shess..h. Also it was listed as CF-29 not cf-30 but the price gone up at the end of the auction maybe some bidder also smell it. Here it is. It cf-30 MK2 touch. complete with cd rom drive. Not a bad deal.

    Panasonic Toughbook 29 - eBay (item 300497894879 end time Nov-27-10 10:19:31 PST)

Now! starting the modding process then to Ebay.

Whilst shopping for the fix for the 29E I came across the same fix "GPS Registry Patch" for the CF-30 in different models. Panasonic .ja site. Load it ,run it, re-enable GPS=no jumpy.

Maybe he "scrolled down" in the description: ;)

"The Panasonic Toughbook CF-30 is quite simply the top-of-the-line in rugged performance for full sized notebooks. The Toughbook 30 comes standard with a 1.66 GHz Intel Core Duo processor and Bluetooth® v2.0 + EDR technology. The touchscreen version of the Toughbook 30 boasts an astonishing daylight readable 1,000 NIT display."
