Ok so I purchased another one of these units off ebay. Last thread I posted I asked a lot of questions about WiFi. I ended up needing the switch application. This time I had the same problem but the switch app didnt work. I puled the machine apart and determined that the stock 2915 intel card had literally melted, there was carbon scarring and flame damage around the card. I pulled it out cleaned the contact and replaced the card with a known good card. Put everything back together and all worked....well for about 10 minutes. My latest problem is, the chime/ding noise that XP makes when you plug in a hardware device it keeps randomly dinging like something is being plugged in and removed, its sparatic and sometimes if you restart it doesnt do it at all. I see the "Remove Hardware" icon appear down by the clock in the taskbar, when i clicked to see what is listed in the stop menu it shows up as "Standard floppy disk controller". So basically whatever that is has a problem and XP thinks hardware is being removed and installed contactly, no add new hardware wizzard appears though. Although annoying this also causes the computer to randomly freeze very annoying. Also some helpful information there is no media bay device plugged in right now and the contacts inside do not appear to have any damage. The media bay works properly when a CD rom is plugged in. I checked all the other ports on the computer none have any sign of mailfunction or damage. Anybody have any idea what would cause something like this? Could it be related to the WiFi card?

Did you clean it up by blowing a high pressure air to those terminal. If not, do it! a dust or corona maybe present and when you are blowing the air a brush can help it to.

Nah I literally just got it Yesterday so I havent done anything to refurb it yet other than wipe down the case so I could restore the software. I do have access to a perfect air system for this so I will try that, thanks

Connor... A little heads up.... Panasonic makes marks with Sharpie markers on some items n such a way that after a few years... They really look exactly like burn holes. Check again. It may just be a marker mark. Even though i know this to be true... every now and then I open one up and could swear that one of the cards is burned.

Now... If you SEE melted plastic/fiberglass or you SMELL burned eectronics... THAT is another issue altogether.

    But look closely!

LoL well lets put it this way, my day job is being a Firefighter, specifically code enforcement and investigations so I'm pretty confident in saying that it was burned. ;) The tape that they put over the card melted and some of the little circuts on the wifi card were obviously deformed. The tape and plastic melted down into the slot the card inserts into on the mobo. The gold contacts on the card are partially burned away. To be quite honest I am surprised another card even worked in the slot. It also smells burned. What would cause such a failure?

Installing the unit into a dock while still powered on is a good factor in this, especially with this being an SBC unit.

An interesting theory, so far i blew it out with air, still doing it and freezing, at this rate this machine may become the great part out for everyone on the forum here lol, its 100% complete and working besides the MOBO

Does anyone have any other information as to what specifically the "Standard floppy disk controller" is, it says its located on the generic bus, Im trying to figure out if there is nothing wrong with the media bay, what else would the computer see as a floppy drive?
