(PS: I did a search here already but didn't find the solution yet)

    Hello,

It's my first post here and hope I can get some help. :)

I got a CF-29L5LGPBM from ebay and all looks good. However, the Verizon wireless WAN does not work. Here are the things I have tried:

    1) In the VZAccess Manager, it says "Device not available". If I press the "Detect Device" button, it says "The WWAN device is disabled. Please enable the device and try again"

    2) On the front of the laptop, I can see the green light (in the shape of a "Z") is on. If I press the small power button to its left, I can turn it off and on (and at the same time, I can hear the Windows new hardware sound).

    3) In Windows XP device manager (there is no error or unknown device there), I can see:
    a) Under "network adapters", it has a entry of "Sierra Wireless 1xEV-DO Network Adapter". Under its property->Details, the "hardware ID" for it is SWMUXBUS\SW_NETEVDO00.
    b) Under "Modems", it has an entry of "Sierra Wireless Modem Device". Under its property->Details, the "hardware Ids" for it is SWMUXBUS\SW_MODEM00
    c) Under "Ports", I can see 2 Sierra related ports, they are:
c.1) Sierra Wireless COM Port Device (COM4)
c.2) Sierra Wireless COM Port Device (COM5)
    Plus other ports (COM1, Com3, COM7, LPT1)

    4) In BIOS, I used the default settings for everything.

    Any idea?

    Thanks!

(Some other post said we may use the driver from Verizon, but somehow I can't find them)

    * Edit *:
In Sierra Wireless Watcher, it only lists the nearby WiFi networks (is this the expected behavior?). I don't see anything related to WWAN. The only option on the UI are: 1) disconnect from an existing WiFi (if I select one from the list). 2) refresh. 3) Create profile (this is grayed out, unless I select one WiFi connection from the list first).

Hi administrator, could you help to delete the other 2 same posts? Somehow it was repeated twice. Sorry for that!

By the way, I already installed the GPS patch, otherwise, the mouse will jump around.

    Dip switch settings?
Physically inspect the wwan card in the sled. Remove re-insert cables.
    Latest version for your card.(driver)
Un-install and re-install device in device manager.

You can report your extra posts. See post at top of forum re:duplicate threads.

No dip switches on the CF-29, AFA!K. That started with the CF-19 and CF-30.

I'm in the UK where EVDO isn't available and so I leave my 5725 adapter disabled. I have VZ Access Manager only so that the GPS will work.

SWMUXBUS\SW_NET_0_VID_1199&PID_0017 is the network adapter Hardware Ids on mine.

    The modem has: SWMMUXBUS\SW_MODEM_1_VID_1199&PID_0017

Hope this might help, ask if you want me to look anything else up. Mine's a Mk. 5 though. Just don't ask me to explain any of it...

Might you have a bad connection at the sled plug/socket?

Yes, I just installed it. It says driver is already there, but I choosed to reinstall it. And I can hear the Windows new hardware / USB sound during that. And notification area says it found EM5625. However, it still doesn't work. :-(

The WS utility on my CF-29 Mk5 with WWAN and WLAN only applies to the WLAN. Not sure how bluetooth would work. The WWAN is controlled by the bios and/or the hardware switch on the left front of the case.

Have you a service provider for EVDO and have you registered the ESN of the card? Mine has an ESN label on the bottom and one inside the battery compartment.
Always just assumed my card wouldn't do anything without a provider so "disabled" was expected and I never tried to find out anything about it.

re. your edit - VZAccess Manager will connect to WLAN if I start it.
press "detect device" > ... "Detecting Sierra Wireless modem device" > ... "The WWAN device is disabled. Please enable the device and try again. (The WWAN device may be disabled by a wireless ON/OFF button. For more information refer to the documentation that came with your computer.)
    The switch is on.
    Like I said I assumed I needed a carrier.

If the card is not registered, it is not useable. However, it is can't find device (though Windows hardware manager shows it).

I use HSDPA in the UK. Quite a few different laptops & PC's.
If it's an internal card I get "can't find device" until I insert a sim card.
    Isn't that the same thing?

    Yes I know.
My point was that "can't find device" may sometimes appear because the card isn't registered with a network.
    I'm often wrong though :D

With my Gobi and Novatel cards I get a "no sim detected" if the sim card is not installed. If the WS, either software or hardware, is turned off I get a "no device detected". This with an HSDPA card with AT&T.

    I got the problem solved!

I simply delete the whole windows, and reinstall everything, and all works good now! (So the ebay seller simply installed some bad drivers causing all the trouble)
