    Hi all,
    I'm experiencing a glitch with my CF-29NTQGZBM that was running fine for weeks. OS as per Mk5 recovery discs and SPs updated.

    The message on the screen...
    Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
    \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
    You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup
    using the original Setup CD-ROM
    Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.

    Since this wasn't a fresh instal with OEM discs and I don't wish to reconfigure it again, what are my options and best case scenario?

    I'm gonna try booting up mini XP from a live CD, do CHKDSK and see if that helps any.

    Willing to adopt new methods if it means learning something new. Many thanks for any suggestions.

    Missing or corrupt files are usually related to hard drive failure
    If/when you get into windows ,run hd tune pro and scan the hard drive for errors

    Alex,
    I've completed HD Tune 2.55 twice. No damaged blocks, health status: OK.
    Ran Chkdsk from live CD, no problems there either, so... not quite sure what else to try.

    Ghosted it last Dec but d@mn... if not for ongoing distractions, I would have a more current image.

    I need a tougher OS to go into my Toughbook!!
