Since 2 weeks, i have installed Windows 7 sp1 on my Panasonic toughbook CF-30 mark3. But now i have a problem with the video chip. Very often (several times an hour), the screen gets a bit garbage. Pixels turn into stripes.. Not the whole screen is then garbage, just a small part. Always on another place. When I move my mouse pointer above the garbage screen part, it often turns good again. This happens while in Firefox, but also on the standard desktop screen or other programs.
After i installed Windows 7 sp1 UK version, I installed the automatic driver install from the Panasonic Website.
After i noticed this strange video behaiviour, i tried the Intel update program, but the program from Intel tells me that my video driver is custom (panasonic) and it is best to keep the Pany driver.
Does anybody know, what the best driver would be for my CF-30 mk3 ?
My current driver version is : 8.15.10.1872 (driver date 13-8-2009)
provided by: Intel Corporation
Device status is : This device is working properly.
-----
Before I installed Windows 7 sp1, i used Windows XP sp3 for 2 years, and never had problems with the videochip.

I tried to install these intel drivers,
Win7Vista_151719
Win7Vista_152257
Win7Vista_152258
WinVista7_15165
but the setup.exe file wont install but gives me this message each time.... (the driver being installed is not validated for this computer. Please obtain the appropriate driver from the computer manufacturer. setup will exit) -

It seems, that more people are having these problems. On the Intel forum, you can see screenshots , that are displaying the same things i have on my cf-30...

Now I see what you mean. I had that same thing happen to me when I installed W7 on my CF-29. It was the video drivers causing it.

I've seen this with bad ram chips.
I would try changing ram and see. There is a screen flicker using Linux on MK3'S so Sadlkmkr might have some input.
Maybe it was okay with a fresh factory restore but happened during updates of a win7?
Possibly you can roll back and see.

hmmm ...
there may be validity to the driver issue caused by windoze update .
my '52 started doing the same thing since i did some updates (or so it would seem) .
i didn't really look at the screen until a couple of days had gone by ...
i have been busy converting it from ccfl to led . -
Also if you are getting a flickering every now and then try this. It will kill Aero so be aware.
Services and go to "Desktop Window Manager Session Manager" stop process. IF that solves the problem go to the option to disable or it will be working again on next reboot. -

Update:
It was the ramchip ! I have 3 gig ram installed and after trying several Video drivers and still having this problem, I removed the 1 Gig ram chip today.
Now I do not have any strange artifacts on the screen.
And I am happy. Gonna have to look for some good ram chips I have at home.
Oh, the buggy ramchip is this one:
1024MB DDR2 667Mhz RAM - Unbuffered, Non-ECC, CL5. no brandname is on this ramchip.UNCNDL1 likes this. -
yep ... makes sense .
as the ram is mapped/shared with the video , this can happen .
bad ram can cause corrupted data to be written to the HDD and cause grief .
