I know the forum is primarily for mod discussion but you folks have always been willing to pitch in on the few times I've had an issue and I'm hoping one of the veteran experts can help me once more.
My CF-30FASAZO runnining Vista, maxed on memory and running a year old Travelstar 320 gig 7200 RPM SATA hard drive has been running without problems since 2014. A week ago I was in Ebay simply leaving feedback, clicked on the leave feedback icon and the screen went blank, followed briefly by the blue screen for a few seconds telling of a severe error.
I had to pull the power cord (should have just held the power switch in, but I was a bit taken back by the error) and restarted the C-30 again. Got the safe mode page, went with normal startup and everything was fine. Since that day, out of the blue, the unit will simply freeze up, you still have the last screen image but no keyboard, mouse, nothing. I push and hold the start switch, go back to safe mode startup and everything returns to normal with the last screen I was on coming back up. This now happen about once or twice a day!
I've erased the hard drive with my recovery disc, reinstalled Vista and still have the problem. Went to the hard disc manufacturer's site and did a complete diagnostic and was told after an hour or more that the hard drive passed the test!
So folks, is there anything else I can try? The fan is fine, software tells me the machine is running cool. My only choice seems to be to buy another hard drive and see if the problem goes away.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

bad memory stick?

Heat was my first thought....fans came in with the CF-31 btw.
Have you tested ram? Pull one stick at a time and see if problem re-occurs.
FASAZ ?? O is odd. Is this the model from page one of bios?
Stick a LiveCD of Linux in it and torment it for a while......Heh! Shawn just posted.... -
Thanks Shawn and Sadlmkr. Made two errors in my original post. This is a CF-30FASAZAM not a CF-30FASAZAO and the drive is running at 5400 rpm not 7800rpm. I bought two sticks (4GB (2X2GB) DDR2 MEMORY RAM PC2-5300 SODIMM 200-PIN) and I did pull the one that was on top and easy to get to when this started- it made not difference. I'll try removing one at a time. Appreciate the advice. -
Your most welcome. Let us know.
