I have a 16GB ExpressCard that I keep in my CF-30 all the time. I keep it loaded with some of of my more important files. I keep doubles of the files on my server but the more used files... I like to keep handy.

Anyway... I recently reformatted with XP Pro. I notice that every now and then the "Autoplay" box pops up and scans through the files and then gives me the options box to either open or open a certain file with a specific program... You know the drill. Just like when you put your USB key into the USB to read it... Except that my ExpressCard stays installed all the time. I rarely remove it.

Anyone else have anything like this?

It's not really a toughbook but my old Pavillion DV5000 used to do that and someone later told me that I was randomly losing power to that port (probably other ports too) I never really pursued it any further because I got a new laptop anyway.

I have a 4gb that stays in my cf-30 all the time and it acts like a hard drive
    Not like a removable

Rick, under device manager -> Properties for that drive -> go to the "Policies" tab and check "Optimize for performance"

That should fix it if I remember correctly.

    Thanks

Rob... You were right... But it wasn't it as it as grayed out and I couldn't change anything there. So... I went into properties and on the Autoplay tab I noticed that it was picking up some of the music that I had on there for ringtones so it was trying to play them I guess. I relabeled it as having "Mixed Content" and told it to take no action when insterted... That ought to shut it up. I knew that I could do that... But I didn't really want to have to... I was just curious as to why it may pop up out of the blue 3 hours after I booted up. Even after I've already accessed the drive for files a time or two. It's almost like I pulled it out and put it back in.

Just a Winders thang I guess.

But thanks for the reminder about the properties tab... I think I'll set my USB key up so that I can remove it without using the "Safely Remove" tab....

No problem!. I knew this because I had this problem in the past.

Also as far as why it was greyed out - Windows binds certain things to other things yada yada, so when you changed the name then it kicked it back to square one :).
