I just recieved a CF-30CCSLZBM and so far everything is working properly. However, there is no software to run the fingerprint reader. I am not sure that I would want to use it but it would be nice to know that it worked. i thought they originally came with Protector Suite, but AuthenTec is no longer selling or supporting it.
If you have one, what software are you running with it? Or do you have any suggestions for testing purposes?

What do you use your BT for? I got 1 and not sure what to do with it.

Thanks for any help. I hope I don't run a fowl of any software discussion rules.

For most stuff I never use Bluetooth. I usually turn it off so it won't waste my battery.

Downloaded mine from Panasonic USA just go to the website and enter your model and MK# and look under security. Protector suite QL comes with the driver package.

Something to remember about Protector suite QL 2009 is its not made for W7 and you need to upgrade / update it which now is hard to do since they are closed down,,,the 2010 / 2011 works fine

Not true. 2009 works just fine with win 7. I had it on my C1 with win 7 :) (and my CF-31 too for that matter)

I just found this I would also like to suggest that we incorporate some of this information into the excellent Loading Windows 7 on your CF-30 Mk1 post!

But I see on reading back that toughasnails found it first! LoL! Sorry!

Yep! I think that I have gotten everything working on the Windows 7 side! This post here was the answer to getting the fingerprint scanner working. I am just trying to figuer out which version of the software in the FTP I found is the correct version to upgrade the old version I have on mine now, but like I said, it is all working. Thanks for all the advice and help!

I am dual-booting Ubuntu and have gotten most working on that side of the machine as well, but still need to calibrate the Touchscreen over there, get GPS going and the Fingerprint package that I downloaded was corrucpted and did not work with the Unity Desktop.

I am doing all of this on the 80GB drive that came with the computer as a dress rehersial. Tomorrow I put my new 250GB SSD in and do it all over again! :D

    Azrial,

I strongly suggest that you get a hard drive imaging program and just image the configured drive to a dvd or bootable usb stick. that way you can restore the image to a new drive in 15 minutes....I have images for my all of my laptops. I bought a faster c5 tablet 2 weeks ago and had the drive cloned with my stuff in 15 minutes using my bootable usb stick. I actually have images for 3 different laptops on the same stick.
I like Acronis True image. Don't get the lite version...The lite version won't do a drive image..

Yes, but which version for the CF-30? Protector Suite Common or Protector Suite (WBF) for Windows 7?

I tried Protector Suite for Linux on the Ubuntu side of my machine and it crashed as I was enroleing my fingerprints and claimed that I was not the Admin on my own machine. It has to be run from the Command Line.
I like it as well and have used it in this past! I have the free verson that comes with Western Digital & Seagate Digital HDD. I am not sure what brand the 80GB HDD is in my Toughbook now, but I may see if it qulifies. I think that imaging is one of the best ways to make a Toughbook truely tought when it comes to being used under hard field conditions. I used to keep an image on my CF-29's OS and installed Software on my Ironkey Flash drive when deployed and it was very helpful when I got hit by a piece of troublesome Malware!

Great! It was just what I needed with the How to Load Windows 7 on a CF-30 MK1 Model guide to get the last item on my CF-30 working.

OK, I asked the question as to which is the appropriate software package for the Toughbook Application. There are two choices, the "WBF ( Windows Biometric Framework) and "Common" packages. From the thunderous silence I deduced that either no one knew, or perhaps no one cares... Either way, here is the answer.

Per the AuthenTec website AuthenTec Customer Support > Downloads > Windows > Drivers, " The WBF driver package is intended for use by applications that use the new Windows 7 Biometric Framework API (SimplePass, TrueSuite 5, Protector Suite WBF Version) and will not work on older operating systems (XP, Vista). The Common driver package is intended for use by applications that use classic Windows Vista (and older) APIs (TrueSuite 4 and older, Protector Suite Common Version) but will work on Windows 7 as well."

There is even a handy page Identifying your Fingerprint Sensor Model on identifying the device in your particular model. This is helpful as my Fingerprint reader will identify as both a UPEK TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor (Under Win7) or a SGS Thomson Microelectronics Fingerprint Reader (Under Ubuntu). I assumed that these devices were interchangeable, but using the device ID strings "VID 0483" and "PID 2016" the AuthenTec Site identified the installed unit in my CF-30C as a "TC" Style Reader with sensor number TCD21/TCD4x.

The correct driver for my application under Windows 7 would be the WBF Driver for TC Reader 1.6.1. Hopefully this research will be helpful to one of you! :D

From what the Capt. has said, if Apple now owns it, this information and software will not be avaiable for long... Might want to get it while it is available. I got everything that I thought that I might need for Windows 7 WBF (maybe Win8) and Linux. I did not need or want any XP files.

Now, back to solving the problem under Linux/Ubuntu...

    what an epithetic emphasis :D :) :p
I think there aren't many users here who either have a FPR, or use it. And from those that do, they probably didn't catch this thread (yet).

Thanks a lot for your research; i'm waiting for a FPR equipped C1mk2, and will be testing it in Linux, in a few weeks. Will report back here with the process.
About your crash, do you have any logs from the Protector Suite ? or a .core file resulted from the program crash ? you can use
and then issue "backtrace" in the gdb shell, to see in wich function it crashed.
    or better try strace
and see the last lines it outputs.

Well I have been trying to get my FPR working on my 52MK4. Two things I had to do was put a password on the bios and windows to setup the software but that was it. The program did not see the FPR at all but it is in device manager and the bios. I spent all one weekend trying to get it to work but no go. I have been at the cottage the last 3 days but am home now so I hope to look at the 52 again this week.

LoL, yeah, I have a bit of a gift for the dramatic as times, don't take it too seriously. That said, I am trying to get the new CF-30 ready for work ASAP, so that I can find my old CF-29 a good home.

I am thinking that there is a better software package then this for Ubuntu with the Unity desktop, Fprintd.
I got this error message in Terminal: azrial@ShadowJack:~$ enroll
enroll: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0.
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'Error'
    Aborted (core dumped)
    azrial@ShadowJack:~$

and this one when Enroll is run from the desktop:
Access denied. Probably you don't have sufficient rights to some system resource required to perform the operation. [status = -5015, code = -1130]

I did not have to set a BIOs password for the Protector Suite in Windows to work, just a user password. Mine is listed in by BIOs and my Device Manager.

Just as a quick update, I got my fingerprint scanner to work in Ubuntu as well! I used FPrintd and it works great! My advice is do not bother with Protection Suite if you are running any other desktop besides Grome, I think that it conflicts with the current Unity Desktop.

If you are a strickly Windows Guy my apologizes for boreing you with this, but after buying and using Windows 8 for one weekend I saw my future, and that future is going to be a lot less dependent on Microsoft...

Now if I can calibrate the Touchscreen and get my GPS working with my Linux mapping software, i will have both OS's working with all devices on my CF-30! :D

    OMG what an fiasco.

I just installed one of these fingerprint readers into my TB running win7pro. Windows has no problem with it, but after installing the stupid protector suite ql software, it does not think I have a "biometric device" installed! Ugh.

Did you look into Device Manager first to see if it was even listed? I have one on my personal (old) CF-30 that will be up for sale soon... The software worked great. If you like fingerprint scanners... I prefer passwords.

FPS.JPG Yes sir. WIndows 7 detected it, installed the correct driver, etc. I just can't find biometric software that will work with it. Shouldnt there be some basic biometric built into win7?
DOes it all rely on 3rd party fly-by-night companies that disappear?

Which software exactly were you using?

Maybe I'm getting the wrong stuff.

THanks! GOt it working. THe problem was, that I needed to change the CURRENT (2013) driver for the ancient (2007) one. Apparently Microsoft and the manufacturer had a current driver that had all sorts of extensions built in to win7, but is worthless because the software itself is too old. :(
