Hi Guys,
I was wondering if any of you techs might have any specs whatsoever on the CF-30 internal GPS? FCC IDs or part numbers would even be better than what I have now, which is nothing but guesses.
Thanks,
Bob

I doubt they will be able to help. They haven't been able to get us any info on GPS or GPS connections so far. Have you called Panasonic directly? What do you have now?

didn't someone post a spec sheet on the GPS unit in the 19 & 29? I wonder if they used the same one in the 30.
And as long as we're talking about the toughbook techs, are they still hanging around here? I haven't seen any new posts from them in a while. -
I have a CF-28 with internal GPS. I am using it on a boat (Toughbook - I am a liveaboard in DC). I am also contemplating a purchase of a CF-30 to replace the CF-28, but don't know whether the 30's GPS will be worth the money they want just to have an all-in-one solution. It's what I prefer but I'm not hard over on it, I can go to BT. It seems kinda ridiculous for them to use the 29's GPS but I'm sure stranger things have happened. The other big question is whether I should spring for the emissive keyboard on the 30 or just put one in after I get it and save the money there. I just want to make sure the keyboards that I can get on Ebay will be compatible.
Thanks,

I haven't seen the techs around in a while. They haven't answered my PMs either...
What kind of boat/ship/yacht do you live on? I used to want to live on a boat... But I have too much stuff... -
I'm currently living on a 45' long sailboat. I have a houseboat that I have begun work on to move onto so I can move the sailboat back out onto the bay. Yeah, it kinda forces you out of the "stuff" game. Good for the budget (sort of - you just buy more expensive SMALL parts i.e. anything that begins with "marine" or "boat" in front of it).
I'm trying to get my CF-28 internal GPS to work, but no joy as of yet. The reason I'd like to have a single unit is laziness. I take it on sailing trips with me for charting/navigation. The Raymarine software requires a special (decryption) CF card reader to pull the charts, so that's already one extra piece I require. Then the 12/120v power adapter. A bluetooth would just add to the mess (a little less than my serially connected Garmin I grant you). I also worry about battery life on a separate piece. The laptop gets 12v, but "just one more piece" turns into a pain.
Thanks,

I do agree with all of the hightly integrated structured cf-30 build that i have done with myself (which is why i upgraded from my 29)... the only thing i wish i could get was the internal fingerprint reader on my cf-30... other than that i make FULL USE of EVERY single little integrated thing on my 30. BTW i have no need for internal GPS as i have gps built into my car and don't need it on my toughbook.
internal uses that i love are:
#1!! INTERNAL SPRINT REV A!!!
#2: Bluetooth (I have the mogo bluetooth PCMCIA mouse, soon to upgrade to the new express one), and i just pop it out and go
#3: Internal gigabit
#4: backlit emmisive keyboard (work at night in the field a lot + type looooong documents and can't stand the rubber one)
#5: BRIGHT 1000 nit screen (drive down sunny road all day long)
#6: dual passthrough on my vehicle mount for the sprint.
#7: internal 802.11n
#8: touchscreen
#9: good speaker (the 29 speaker sucked royally!!!)
#10: Stylus holder (no holder on my 29, always lost my damn stylus lol)
#11: MORE THAN ONE USB PORT (my 29 was a mark 3 with only 1 USB port lol)
#12: Integrated SD (Excellent combo with my sd to micro SD/usb converter mixed with my 2gb micro sd card in my centro palm phone)... i have storage for palm, and a portable thumb drive as well.
I only had like 3 of the above options in my 29 which is why i upgraded.
Things i WISH I COULD HAVE ON MY 30
#1!!!!!!!!!!: should strap capibility... I GREATLY MISS THAT ON MY 29!!!
#2: internal fingerprint reader.
