I am looking to replace my 80gb hard drive that came with my CF-30.
I am curious, short of disassembling the hard drive caddy before i get the new drive, what type of hd is it (ATA-6, SATA, ect).

It seems that most forums suggest a SATA but the official specs list an ATA-6.

Also, is there any specialized type of drive I need such as shock-resistant or does the caddy take care of that?

    bear -

First off - Welcome to the forum!

I've looked at a number of CF-30 HD caddies for sale online; I believe the CF-30 is in fact SATA.

You should be easily able to tell just by inspecting the caddy without disassembling it; the connectors for a SATA caddy should not have the 56-trace connector that older ATA-6 models had.

Of course, you can always look up the HDD model # from your HDD properties Tab or in device Manager, then Google it to find what kind of drive it is.

Or you could just slap it around with a medium-sized trout until it tells you...

They are Sata. Its cheaper in the UK to buy a new hdd caddy kit from panasonic and a new 320 gig hdd from Ebuyer, than a second hand 80 gig caggy/hdd unit.

Can you please link the "official" specs showing ATA6 for the CF-30? I've never seen that mis-print...
