The newer Toughbooks have an EFI rather then BIOS, hence the change in provider.

To an old hot rodder like me, "EFI" = Electronic Fuel Injection.

Interesting! I had to Google this and found some interesting capabilities.

My CF-30 MK3 has the Phoenix BIOS.

Haha - maybe when fuel cells one day come there will be both types of EFI

Thats the same bios on my CF-30MK3 motherboard with a bios password. BTW, for an info. The cf-30MK1 LCD screen assembly is not compatible to CF-30MK2 and MK3 as cf-30MK1 LCD harness has different connector. But MK2 and MK3 are interchangeable.

Correct , but if you exchange the harness the mk2 and mk3 will plug in fine to the lcd display on the mk1
As ohlip would say ...Ask me how I know

Alex.. is also correct as they use the same LCD but you need to take it apart to change the harness. Also the 500nit LCD has only one CCFL(backlite) while the 1,000nit has two.

My CF30 MK2 is Phoenix, my MK3 is American Megatrends.
So why would some models have different BIOS manufactures? -

The BIOS to EFI upgrade happened in the middle. I think mk1 devices are BIOS, mk2 can be either BIOS or EFI depending on exact models, and mk3 and mk4 are almost always EFI (applies to CF-19 and CF-30).
