There's more than one way to skin a cat.
I installed the factory GPS this afternoon and immediately had issue with the serial mouse loading on the same com port.
Let me begin by saying the GPS patch did not work for me. After the automatic install failed I went looking for another solution.
I ended up at How to stop Windows 7 automatically installing drivers, Method 2, Configure Group Policy Settings.
I followed the instructions down to step 2 and I did not have all the options shown on the screen. I right clicked on "Device Installation Restrictions" and changed all the filter options to 'any'; then I had all the same options.
Here is where I deviated from the instructions: I selected "Prevent installation of any devices that match any of these device IDs". I then went to the mouse that was loading and looked up the ID (for me it was PNP0F09). I added it, saved everything, and EUREKA! Windows quit loading that serial mouse and the GPS is working perfectly.
Hope this helps out anyone else who needs a simple and permanent solution.
