Soooo, says a fellow has a CF-30 Mk 1 with a Fingerprint Reader, Bluetooth (OEM???) and a OEM GPS.

Then says he gets ahope to a newer, slightly more powerful CF-30 Mk2 without those features.

How difficult would the transplant be to swap those two items over?

    Just saying...

I think you would not have any problem at all doing this. If you had both of them in front of you it should be like a walk in the park.

Pretty sure he already has a Samsung 840 250GB SSD in it.....
Swapping the rest is no big deal.

I wasn't sure if he was still looking around or not on the SSD.

Nah, The 250GB SSD is still swaddled in it's original packaging. From what I hear, the factory GPS is no big deal, but the Fingerprint reader is more of a mod then an install. I was hoping that someone had done it and could give me the low down. I am not sure what the story is on the Bluetooth, I was surprised that it was there, but it is. I am not sure if it is OEM or not. I would assume that it is OEM as it shows up in the BIOs.

Thanks for the kind words guys! But I am more of an investigator then a tech. :)

When I remember, I will send you some documentation to make it easier.
Someone here did add the fingerprint dohickey. I added GPS. No big deal. Bluetooth Is in same location as GPS..

So easy a CAVEMAN could do it....
PM me an addy and full model numbers.....

Leave the fingerprint reader off... It is more of a pain than anything if you ask me. Mine delayed boot (when I had it active on my cf-30) because it took multiple reads to finally read the fingerprint. I have a CF-52 that I have been playing with that is a little better but just use a strong password and you'll be fine. Sell the fingerprint reader on ebay and buy something cool with the profit.

I agree with Rick. I have had them on my 51's and 52's and it does slow the boot up. On my 52MK4 I could never get it to work right. Some days I could scan my finger and other days I would end up putting in my password to get into it...5-10 minutes later  . I like the idea of sitting down in front of my 52 and 20 seconds later checking out NBR , not 10 minutes later. I now have it disabled .

Really guys, mine usually works in 1-3 tries! I swipe my left thumb and I do it from base to nail.

It's not the reader that's the problem. It's their finger......Please post a photo of the finger. :D

I have a CF-52A (Mk1) with FP reader and using the FP software package from the JP Pany site for CF-31 it works reliably, usually 1 swipe if I don't go too fast. Does not seem to delay boot and with an SSD so it boots pretty fast.

The value of an FP reader depends on your environment. May not be worth it if you're using around the house or informal use. But in an environment that requires proper safeguarding of customer or sensitive data, and the laptop often goes into screen lock, it can be a convenience. Or if you just want to impress co-workers with your tech-savvyness. Or if you're a fan of the NSA . . .

ETA: I'm using the QL 2009 software from ToughBookTalk.com at this link: http://toughbooktalk.com/public_downloads/index.php?dir=CF-31 Stuff/
It seems to work great with Win7, at least for 64-bit

Wow Shawn! I just saw this. Thanks a lot, as soon as the swelling in my left hand goes down I am going to give it a try.

I had two guys try to run me over the other night and I am a bit banged up right now.

I have a Mk2 CF-30 here, thanks to Ken, that I am going to use as the basis for CPU upgrade. I am looking forward to it!

Sadly, one got away after abandoning his partner whom I was able to pull out of the open van door as they were driving away.

His night kind of went downhill from there...
