I have the factory GPS in my CF-30 Mk2. The bios see it and WinFast Navagator shows a red data light on COM3 at 9600 baud, but that's it.... no birds, no signal view!

It shows up in the BIOS and I have tried all hex addresses!

What am I missing or forgetting?

You forget to send a box of Wheat Thins to the sheep when you sent the cf30 to Jeff. The sheep have hexxed it with a curse.

Right 4800 baud, Com 3 also sounds right. Believe Mk3 is a Leadtek unit, Mk2 and older are the Sony 5005 units. Is it possible the GPS antenna lead came loose?

Bingo! The evil sheep perhaps made me forget to bring my teaching glasses today! It defaulted to 9600 and I could not see that there was a 4800 baud option!

It was vexing, because of course I knew that the hardware was perfect!

    Thanks!

Don't know why 4800 is hidden....not exactly hidden...just scroll up...but Shawn will tell us why 9600 is default. :D

Well, It seems that Leadtek wrote Winfast Navigator when they released the 9531 usb GPS module. The 9531 has a baud rate of 4800-19200.

This is a guess on my part, but I bet the default baud rate of the 9531 is 9600.

Well like I said, I forgot my reading glasses and ergo I though that the slowest baud rate was the default, 9600, which I think was the baud on Rick's GPS Kit that I bought from him for my CF-29. I spent all day reading my phone and screen through my fist! I made a pinhole lens with it and that got me though the day try it some time!

Thanks again for getting me straight, I KNEW worked because when Jeff shipped it, it worked under the old Windows!

I just finished installing a ublox 6m in my CF-30 earlier tonight and this is what I have found. You need to install the Ublox software

    https://www.u-blox.com/en/evaluation-software/u-center.html

This will allow you to configure certain Ublox devices. Once you have the software you need to download the manual

    https://www.u-blox.com/images/downloads/Product_Docs/u-Center_User_Guide_(UBX-13005250).pdf

I am usually pretty good about stumbling my way through software packages and being able to figure out what I am trying to do. Not so easy with this one.

My mission was to make the Ublox work with S&T. First I had to tackle the 4800 vs 9600 baud rate. The manual was pretty straight forward about how to change the baud rate and upload the changes to the device. Next, it had to communicate NMEA 2.0 (as if I knew what that was). I finally found some configuration changes and when I started S&T, 8 satellites! I never saw more than 5 with the OEM GPS.
