When searched for CF-30 BIOS and Embedded Controller files, the Panasonic Download Support site (both Panasonic.com and also pc-dl.Panasonic.co.jp/dl) lists ONLY those for the C/D Mk1 models (and even then only for the XP Downgrade versions): specifically offering only BIOS V1.00L20 and EC V1.00L17.
However, the first screen of the actual BIOS of a MK3 (CF-30Kxxxxx2M with a VISTA COA) lists it's BIOS as V3.00L20 and EC as V3.00L16. Likewise, a CF-30Kxxxxx2B with a Win7 COA lists it's BIOS as v3.01L23 and EC as V3.00L18. A MK2's BIOS and EC lie in between these numbers -- but nothing after the MK1 is listed by Panasonic. Anyone have any idea where the later files can be found? I am particularly interested in the very latest ones for a CF-30Kxxxxx2B -- probably the V3.01123 BIOS and V3.00L18 EC. Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello,

Sorry for bringing up an old thread but I need the latest BIOS for MK3. It seems that is not available on the .ca site. File name is cf30k_mk3_bios_r-2009-0027-binary.zip.

Can someone send it to me please?

    Bets regards

    Hello Shawn,

Thank you very much for your fast reply. I tried to flash the BIOS but it seems it is the same with what I have now.

    My story with this CF30:
The old board has a broken network card and also shuts down randomly (not related to heat). I replaced the board with another one which is fine but it has a lower BIOS revision it seems and the Win7 installation that was on the drive doesn't boot correctly anymore.

I thought the file that was missing from .ca site was revision BIOS V3.01L23 and EC V3.00L18 but it is the old one it seems. Do you have the correct file for V3.01L23?

Thank you again for your help. Best regards

    to interject ...
you swapped out the motherboard ...
as each copy of windows is "registered" to a specific motherboard when it is installed , you may find that the activation key (on the bottom or elsewhere) may no longer work .

CWB32 (Larry) is correct. The new board may have a stored XP key, so you will have to manually change the Windows7 key.
Check the touchscreen setting in the BIOS.

    Hello,

I re-registered it with the key on the bottom. Both cases have Win7 COA on the back but on the good motherboard it doesn't want to register, touch seems not to work fine and it is covering only partly the screen, the GPS is not detected in BIOS and bluetooth can be seen in BIOS but not in Windows Device Manager that's why I want to bring the good motherboard to the same revision of the BIOS.

    Bets regards

    Hello,

I did some trials and errors to find out what exactly is with these BIOS versions around and it seems that V300 BIOS is only supporting WinXP and Vista (SLP and SLIC2.0) and registers fine with Recovery discs. V301 BIOS also contains the necessary data (SLIC2.1) to be used with Win7 Recovery disc and registers fine also. Can anyone confirm this?

    Another topic:
Is there any matching list with versions for BIOS and ECU?
I ended up with BIOS V300L16 and ECU V300L17 on a CF30mk3. Looking around the forum and other docs I see no mention about this combination.

Anyway now I am running Linux and all components are fine. There is a delay for touchscreen but I am not using it so not a big deal.

Looking forward for the latest V301L23 BIOS and ECU V300L18. I think it would be helpful also for other users or just go for a CF31.

Best regards and thank you for your help

    V1.xxxxLxx is for mk1 only
    V3.xxxxLxx is for mk3 only

I am not sure version 3.01L23 was ever released as an update. If that is true, the only way to get it is copy it from a CF30 running it. Then use the same software to install the saved ROM onto the other machine.

I thought I had the full ROM, but I guess it only backed up part of the BIOS. There is a setting in the universal BIOS backup tools to make sure it saves the entire ROM.

Thanks for the info. I thought that V301L23 was released but later removed. Strange that Panasonic doesn't release all versions to the public. And the one's they release there is little info in "Release Notes".

The idea is if I manage to make a backup of the full ROM for V301 can I flash it without bricking the motherboard on another mk3? Not sure if someone tested it on the forum. Couldn't find any details or I don't know how to search :(

What about the ECU? Is it covered in the full BIOS backup? Lenovo/IBM seems to have the same environment on their laptops BIOS and ECU.

I am just worried if there are any stability issues due to BIOS/ECU? Charging issues, components not fully supported or overall slower speed. Until now seems to run fine with Linux.

Thanks for the offer for CF31 but I will stay now for a while with the CF30 and the CFH2. I hope I will not need the Win7 soon. Main issue for me is when I need to run some app that needs Win and I need to remove ssd from caddy, install hard drive in the caddy, make recovery with dvd and see that many components are not working... I don't like to run dual boot...

Thanks again Shawn for all details and help.

Buy a second caddy. They are cheap now. Put a dedicated Windows7 drive in it. Swapping caddies takes seconds.

Flashing the BIOS will not remove passwords.

Password removal is a forbidden subject on all of NBR....Sorry

    panasonic assistance ...
as has been mentioned , the options are very few ... but they will be happy to assist you ...
they might tell you to "ship the unit to an authorized service center" and for a fee , they will do the job .
the subject of panasonic and password for the bios can be researched on the web until hell freezes over or the cows come home and the results will pretty much be the same ... nada .
panasonic keeps a tight grip on the password stuff .

i would be very cautious about dealing with someone that is not a representative of an authorized service center of the level required .
