So I wanna see just how high up I am here in my new home :D. What program will do this? I tried winfast navigator and it doesn't show elevation, neither does Streets and Trips.

    Any advise?

    Thanks

Garmin Mobile PC gives Elevation readouts, but as noted in the link, it is now a "discontinued product." :(

And as I learned with my iQue M5 Pocket PC, once it's discontinued there is no support for the product. :realmad:

So, no telling how long I will be able to update the maps in my Mobile PC.

Streets and Trips does show altitude - just close the navigation pane, and a GPS pane will come up, with lat, lon, alt, time, sats locked, etc...

A simple GPS test program, Virtual GPS, will let you view raw GPS data, as well as provide graphic view of sats and lat, lon, and alt information...

I also use National Geographic Topo, Delorme Topo 4.5, and UI-View 32, and all of them show complete information, including altitude...in fact, I've never seen a GPS program that did not provide altitude....

    Good luck... :D

Keep in mind that the altitude data is not going to be nearly as accurate as the horizontal data. Only the very best of the best will give sub-meter accuracy vertically, none of our usual devices will.

Teo, That Ublox is pretty nice.
I did a bunch of reading and found out (I think) that Ublox won't change settings in the GPS. I want feet, miles and such.
Here's the question....what do we use to change settings in the CF-30 OEM GPS?
    Thank you.

@Jeff, You will be changing the units in the software not the GPS, assuming the software has that option.

Thanks. I had that and got BSODs in XP so I ripped it out by the roots. I'll give it another go in 7. It's a (rhymes with itch) to input data while driving, talking on the phone, smoking a ciggy and drinking a beer at the same time though. I like the interface on the Garmin prog but the route selection algorithms are maddening.

What I said. Ublox says the units must be tweaked in the GPS. I've been over and under it several times and read some of the manual. No big deal though. Ublox is o.k. for what it is.

OK, its been a long week so bear with me. "Ublox" is a GPS receiver, yes? In your quote above "tweaked in the GPS" means changed in the receiver or does "GPS" mean software application? I'll have to look, but IIRC, all consumer level GPS receivers report standard NMEA sentences which are translated by software to usable information. Long story short, are you asking if it is possible to change settings in the receiver relative to distance units, ie feet to meters, reported?
By the way, I'm guessing the wave didn't make it up to your house.

But then Rob will have to add a barometer to his CF-30 so he can set his altimeter and decide if he wants the information in meters. Then Jeff will butt in wanting the data in feet, and before you know it we will have another 20 page thread to torture the poor newbie who reads the whole thing just to find out that all of the relevant information to the OP was settled by the third post. Gotta love this place!

I figured out Garmin PC can find me the closest diesel station. Can S&T do that? I wanna say I remember a "value added" feature one could purchase to go online with it and find stuff like that.

If you have WWAN up and running, yes. It also gives you traffic info...

I have WWAN with Sprint and I love it!

I'm taking my boat out tomorrow (HOPEFULLY THE WEATHER STAYS NICE!!!!) *Knocks on wood*, and I will try out my GPS navi tomorrow whilst in the lake :)
