Hi all, I've tried using search but unable to find a link or a hard copy.

I have a CF-30CTQAZBM which I have managed to wear a hole in the touch/mouse pad over the 3 years I've owned it. I'm in the process of ordering a replacement pad from panasonic, now all I need is idea on how this thing comes apart to replace it.

Does anyone have a copy of the service manual or instructions, please.

Also I wish to upgrade the HDD from the standard 80gig to a 250gig or 320gig, I'm open to suggestions on make and model of HDD.

Thanks Rob.... It's a lot easier to just download it than it is to try to zip it and send it.... Most email providers won't allow that size.

As to the hard drive... Just make sure it is IDE.... Your choices pretty much limited to the WD Scorpio Blue... That is the one that I use when I go up that high... I get them from newegg.com

    NOT a bad price!

I too have worn two small holes in my touch pad.The parts are cheap, the replacement requires removing your palm rest cover, a task I'm not interested in messing with. I have just patched the holes with some very low viscosity epoxy to keep the bumps to a minimum. Works fine, hardly notice the patches are there.

May I suggest that while you are waiting for your new touchpad that you invest in a sharp chisel. I recently moved a touchpad from one unit to the other and found that though some advocate using a screwdriver to peel up the sticky that the chisel worked best for me. A half inch size would be dandy.
I worked from the side opposite the flimsy cable and gently lifted and pushed at the same time. Then when I got to the cable side I was able to roll the pad upright. With the bottom off and cables disconnected then roll the cable out of the hole. It's kind of L shaped.
I know you aren't worrying about damage to the old cable but I sure was. Rolled or rather rotated the new (old for me) cable into the hole, hooked up the connections, stuck it back down and Bob's your uncle.
I've never seen a CF-30 up close but these tips might help in your case.
The funny part was the touchpad worked better than ever. Either reseating the connections or simply the flexing of the pad tuned it up nicely.

Ooops.... I had been answering so many CF-29 questions that slipped past me.... Yes... You are, of course, correct.

    CF-28/29 = IDE/PATA

    CF-30 = SATA

    Thanks for catching that one!

OK so its a sata hdd then.

Now what is the difference between a sata, sata11 and can I fit either or only a sata hdd.

I hoping to order the hdd, mouse pad and have a day of maintenance and file transfering. Oh happy days...hopefully fingers crossed......

SATA or SATA 1 was the first interface of 1.5Gb/s
SATA 2 (currently the most common and the one on the CF-30) has an interface of 3Gb/s.
Any recent or new 2.5" HD you find will be a SATA 2.

    More on that here

Hi all, I've built a few desktop/tower computers in my time, but this is my first delve into upgrading a laptop.

Thanks for clearing that up, so its a sata hdd, didn't want to order the wrong type.

Toughbook has suggested, a WD Blue Scorpio, I also prefer WD or Samsung products.

I have 2 more questions, please bear with me.

    1. Would a WD Black Scorpio cause to much battery drain, its not a bad price but is the performance gain worth the cost of the battery drain/heat gain, or should I stick with the 5400rpm one.

    2. I use the touch screen a lot at work the surface is now scratched, I have an oem replacement screen film, it appears all that is required is to gently lift a corner of the film and peel the film off, then replace it. Is there any danger of damaging the main screen.

The laptop is my personal property so don't wish to damage it, hence the questions, I use the 2nd battery option at work.

    Your thoughts and advice, please......
