    Hi all,
I've just got my "new" second hand CF-30 and I just love it.
I've been spending some time to see how the WAN works, but I'm not able to do anything with that, so after much reading I though to ask for help...
First of all: the laptop comes from US and it is refurbished, so I don't know if the WAN adapter was used with some specific company or not. I'm in Europe, moving between Spain and Italy, so I would like to be able to use the GSM module with european companies.
I think that the device is correctly installed: I'm using Win7 Pro and I can see it both listed under Modems (Sierra Wireless MC5725 Modem Device) and under Network Adapter (Sierra Wireless CM5727 1xEV-DO Network Adapter).
I've been trying to install the Sierra AirCard Watcher as I've been reading around, but it says that no peripheral is found on the sistem.
I've been also trying to create manually a connection, both dialup and PPPOE, but it doesn't work.
So I'm beginning to wonder... can I use this module with my SIM card? Or it is just made to work with a couple of specifics US companies?
What should I try to do to have it working? It seems like that there is no general software to create a connection or monitor the signal or just check if that thing is working! Or at least, I wasn't able to find it... Any suggestion?

    Thanks!

Ok, an update: after hours of downloads and test, I was able to get the modem recognized by the Verizon Access Manager, so I suppose that this module was used with Verizon.
I tried two different SIMs and I always get no signal: is it possible that the module is locked on that operator? Is there any way to unlock it?
What puzzles me is that in the application I cannot even access to the messages on the SIM, so it seems like it is not even reading it...

Isn't a Sierra MC5775 a CDMA card? CDMA does not use a sim card. GSM does..

    This is interesting software.

Hm, I don't know... I don't have much experience on embedded modules.
But... it is a Sierra and it does have the SIM slot, so I guess it is a GSM. How could I check to be sure?
Edit: are you sure that CDMA doesn't use a SIM card? I think that CDMA is just mobile stardard, it doesn't have much to do with the presence of a SIM...

I see... I just found another thread for another laptop for another module with the same problem :D
So the sim slot may not be used by this CDMA module... that is quite surprising for me. Well, I have asked info on the other thread because they were able to solve the issue by changing the wwan module, maybe it works also for me.

I do not have any active wwan... When I am out and about and need (well ok WANT) internet, I use free wifi at McDonalds.

I am too cheap to even have cable TV. Roof antenna and rotor, ...Usually 25 FREE channels. weather depending..
I hate those recurring monthly payments..My cell phone is pay as I go...
Cable TV, cell phone plans, WWAN all cost more in TAXES than I would get in service. My landline phone has a $39.99 month fee for DSL internet and I use about $5.00 a month in toll calls. My BILL is over a $105.00 month.......$60.00 per month in misc TAXES ..........
They can BITE ME on cell phone/WWAN plans and TAXES...... :mad2:

    Sorry I got derailed......
