So is this the WWAN slot?
I have found empty trays for this slot and ones with GOBI??, Verizon and even GPS modules.

Does anyone know if one could buy the tray, buy a card with GPS and use GPS using the "Already install WWAN antenna" to get GPS going? can it be a DELL brand card that is GPS?

I have the WWAN antenna onboard and really want GPS and Dont want to take apart the laptop to install the GPS module and antenna.

You need a gobi 2000 for gps,it will really suck and generally a dell card will not work.

    yep ...
i had (i believe) a gobi 1000 (according to the research and numbers) in my '30 and it did work gps ... but not very well .
it was bad enough to where i got an after market card/antenna to do the job .
the 2000 is better and newer than that is even better .

stick with the *what-works-in-panasonic* list ... panasonic machines are very fussy about what they work with .
(kinda like a movie star that is really stuck on herself)

yep , you can use that slot to run a cell phone/data/link interface .
check on ebay and post some links .

And no a HP will not work either...that is usually the next question they ask. Stay away from the ones from China too.

I'll just stop my laziness, install the GPS unit, install Xp pro run update from the Darrin file to upgrade bios. Install Vista with the disk that came in, then install 7 ( I don't have a 7 disc but I made a USB stick) I can't figure out how to boot to USB. I'm used to using F12 but that is not an option.....

Anyone know what the express card is called that Will allow me to use a Verizon card in the CF30? What software do I need to use too?

    Is this it?

Now, is there a slot somewhere to install the Verizon 3g/4g card?

    that looks like it ...
i can't get to my hell-box right now , else wise i could tell you about that card ... it looks right .
wait for one of the other guys .
yes there is a place to slide a card in ... left upper front of the lower unit ... it has screws and it is easier if you remove the battery .
hopefully , yours came with the sled .

i can tell you that you have to pay very close attention as to what is installed and the sequence that it is installed ,
get/make a list of all that is needed and the sequence ... check it off as you go (that is what i had to do) .
there is a lot of *stuff* that has to be installed ... it is easy to loose track .

also ... once the stuff is installed and you want to sync it with your existing verizon account ...
you may have trouble finding someone that actually knows how to set that beast up ... trust me on this .
no , you do not need one of their "data adapters" or whatever they call it .
they tried that with me ... the front sales people stared in awe and ignorance ... the front tech was sweating and could not manage to utter a coherent sentence that actually made sense .
finally , after three guys looked at it and said "it's too old" , "what the hell is that ?" , "i feel sick" , etc ... a fellow came out and things got much better .
stick to yer guns , do not let them bs you .

Before you get too involved with a Verizon card, you need to find out if your Toughbook is wireless ready or not.
Some models have that slot but do not have the internal connections.

I suggest getting the BIOS and Win7 sorted out before getting too involved with Verizon and WWAN sleds.

Yea I took a flashlight and looked inside there is two connections inside the slot. A RF round port and a flat connector like the battery connector (sorta). Yeah I am going to fix that bios stuff tonight. I'm tired of procrastinating installing XP. I'm really worried win7 will not work but I know there is lots of knowledgeable toughbook crowed here.

    W7 will work ...
once you learn to RTFM and FTFI , it will seem pretty easy .
when first learning to work with any toughbook it is best to forget some preconceived notions learned from other comps .
it is hard to "forget what ya know" ... we all go/went through it ... but we all go through in our own way and time ... no one else's .
it helps to be in a good state of mind with the learning curve you are on ...
do not start working on what is in front of you unless you are not pushed for time and have distractions .
it is easy to make a mistake but it takes much longer (sometimes) to recover from one .
