hey guys back with a new build,
    bad news:
info is gone off the back (where can i find the model number)*found this on cd drive CF-VDR301U*
so far touch screen is not working correctly, ive gone through the cf-30 forum but didnt find a problem like mine.
    its running win7 Ultimate sp1
disabled gps for now to fix mouse jump
ive updated the bios and the TS drivers along with afew of the others in the bulk driver .zip

with the touch screen i go to calibrate and at first it seemed it wasnt working but now ive realized now that it shows as being along the bottom of the screen and main tool bar

when taping the + it works but still shows the pen as touching the very bottom of the screen, i can tap anywhere on the screen and whatever is on the bottom directly under the pen will react. could this just be the board or gunk along the bottom of the screen ? it looks very clean inside and out but then again my last books were mill surplus and looked of babyfood

    on this book ive found:

    gps,
    wifi,
wwan via sierra wireless for verizon( if someone can point me the direction for getting that set up and running im very interested) need to get a verizon sim card first, does prepaid work?
    LAN and 56k
    SD card
DVD-ROM & CD-R/RW drive pack CF-VDR301U <is that the same as the model number for the book?
    express slot
    pcmcia slot
    Backlet key
    NO fingerprint scanner
    1.50g ram
    90g hdd

im having some trouble installing afew of the drivers to but my teck friend is going to sort that in a week when we leave on a trip

i would have done more searching but as usual im in a crunch and need all the help i can get .

    :D cheers!

Ok first check the BIOS for the model number ( F2 on startup)...yes it might be gunk along the bottom of the screen but the MK1 is known for bad touchscreens. Come back after you have the model number

Blair, I disagree ALL Toughbooks touch screens have a high failure rate. If you get any used Toughbook with a working touchscreen it’s like hitting the Lottery.

    Go buy a ticket. :)

Do you know if the touch was working before the upgrade or not ?

it has the pen on it and is still in very good condition ,

if it is registering that the screen is being pressed on the + even though it is showing the pen tip at the bottom of the screen is that still the actual screen or could it be the board?

if i am to check / clean the gunk between the 2 screens how do i go about removing the lid?
The screws on the outside im guessing?

and where is the controller board located? under the keys or accessible from the bottom?
if you could link me to the keyboard removal thread and screen cleaning/replacement thread its much appreciated

also is there any other touch pad maybe from a newer model that i could replace my current with? i'm going to be using this in the cruiser and will need everything on board and easy to manipulate.

Well what I use is something like a piece of thin plastic or old credit card and run it around the screen bezel...my guess you might find some crud between the screen and bezel.

Try using the search in my sig...it works very good...much better than the one at the top of this page

looks like its the screen, cleaned out alittle gunk and that didnt fix it checked the control board and its all hooked up n solid.
guess ill have to take the screen out and see if its salvageable might just have a pinch somewhere

i guess ill move on to the GPS for now.

its disabled right now due to mouse jump

i updated the driver but it still has jump issues

Easy fix -- Windows thinks the GPS is a serial mouse. Look for the GPS registry patch (prevents mouse enumeration).

Installing Sierra Wireless's "Watcher" connection manager software added GPS to the bios on my CF-29 - before that it wasn't shown & didn't work. I can't use EVDO in the UK but the GPS works OK and I do like the list of historic US wireless hotspots.
If GPS piggybacks WWAN on the sled in the CF-30 too then maybe installing Watcher will light at least one of 'em up for you?
Hope it helps but this was XP not 7.
