I ordered kit sled (CF-WEW30008) and Gobi modem (T77Z039.02) from Hartland for my wireless ready CF-30. The sled came with no diagram and neither Harland nor Panasonic Support will provide me with it when I called. I assembled the sled myself then, installed Gobi modem in it and inserted it in my laptop. Now I'm trying to install CSA application but I get the error "There is not the Wireless WAN device supported by this software". Please help!

If your 30 is mk1, or 2,you have to check you bios , some early version bios does not support GOBI 1000.

Not sure how to tell mk1 from mk2 but this is a brand new CF-30 I just got and it came with Bios V3.00L20. Parts told me I'm good to go with WWAN when I was ordering the kit and the modem. It's just that now Support won't help me with Gobi and won't provide diagrams and instuctions. What else should I be checking? BTW, I'm a new to Toughbooks and to this forum.

What OS are you running? If it is Win 7, the Gobi 1000 is NOT supported. I have been fighting this battle for some time. I have been told by Panasonic that it should work under x86 but not x64. Well following their directions, I haven't been able to get it to work under either one. Under Win XP, it works great, just not under Win 7. I have two sleds and two cards here that I have been working with. Both work just fine under XP. I have not tried Vista (I HATE Vista!)

I'm trying to run it on XP SP2. I don't know if have dip switches wrong or I wired the modem and the sled incorrectly and I'm gettign no support on this from Panas. Neither Hartland nor Panas support would provide me with a diagram and instructions. Can you share how you have you dip switches setup for gobi and how the wiring is done between the sled and the modem? Right now Windows does not see it at all, I don't even know if it's alive.

I don't have this diagram on my sled board (CF-WEW30008) so i don't know if with mine the settings are the same. If it is it would appear to me that I have mine set to UNDP1. Is that what I need for Gobi modem (T77Z039.02) to use T-Mobile SIM? If I have it wrong should't the modem show up in the device manager anyway and just not function?

Note for our sled the above picture is backwards from what is on our board. Reverse the numbers and you will be fine. With the sled in your hand and the switch block facing you, the left two switches should be up and the right two down.

Go into Device Manager and look under ports (COM & LPT). Do you see anything there saying Qualcomm something? Then look under Network adapters for something with Qualcomm in it. Get back with me with the results and we can go from there.

Panasonic is the one not supporting the GOBI 1000 under win 7. Those drivers linked above are for HP's and may not work with ours. Not only that, it is 130 MB in size and with the internet service I have here, that would take about 10 hours to download. It will be GREAT to get back home to real broadband speeds. Sony, Acer and Dell also have drivers for Win 7. I did d/l the Sony one but it will not allow you to run it on an non-Sony machine.

    Rusty,

I did get the CSA to install and work on my CF-30 Mk2 with Win7 x86. There is a BIOS and EC update required to make Gobi work in a Mk2. I extracted the CSA to a folder on the HDD. I set two files to compatibility mode Vista, not SP1 or SP2. I 'm not sure which files because I can't look at the folder right now. Seems like CSA setup and what ever that points to. I'll look later and see if I can remember.

I installed the complete CSA to the HDD so I could switch between carriers without using the CD.

Ok, this may be alot easier than you think. I recently got a sled off eBay and the seller said the same thing. I played with it for some time actually days and then I saw something that just didn't look right. I couldn't figure it out for a little bit then it stuck me right upside the head. I want you to carefully look at the sled again. In particular look at the ribbon cable that goes from the top of the sled to the bottom side. The bottom side is the side that the gobi card attaches to. Again, with the sled in your hand with the switch block and gobi card facing you, look just to the right of the card. See that connector? Now flip the sled over and under the black plastic sheet there is another connector. Let's start with that one. The end of the ribbon cable there has blue plastic on one side. That side should be facing AWAY from you. In other words you should not be able to see the blue plastic when the cable in installed. I am willing to bet you have it the other way around. The bare connector side of the ribbon cable should be facing UP. The same goes for the other end. With the sled in your hand with the gobi card facing you, look at that connector and again, you should not be able to see that blue plastic. With my internet connection speed here I can't send too many pictures but I do hope this helps. Almost a sure thing this cable is installed incorrectly.

I apologize then. I hadn't played with this for a few weeks or so. I am running Win 7 Pro X64. I really don't want to have to reinstall Win 7 losing what I have. For the MK3 there is no BIOS upgrades needed nor available at last check. I do remember trying the same with regards to compatibility modes without luck. The thread has got me interested again and I will be playing around to see what comes up. I do have 2 HD caddies that I use but one has XP and the other Win 7. I guess I can erase the XP one and try Win 7 x86.

Great, I'm gonna tackle it tommorow. I hope that's what it is. :) I assembled the sled myself and it was shot in the dark. I even left out a few bummpers and some insulating tape because I have no idea where it goes. Let me ask you this before I get to it. Can you describe how your AUX and MAIN connectors are wired because with their lengts I can go either way. Thanks and I appreciate your help.

If the wwan is not recongnized by the device manager,it should not have any concern with the OS, pls check the wiring first:
I open a Rev.0, the wire should have the same connection.

Rusty503 and tango_tough, you are the MEN!!! I now have a functioning WWAN thanks to you! It was the ribbon cable I had backwards. Much appreciated for you support. If you are ever in Rhode Island I owe you some beers! Thanks again! :)
